a person would be disqualified from serving on a jury if -
they had at any time been convicted and sentenced to a period of imprisonment of five years or more, or
they had within the last 10 years served a period of imprisonment or detention, received a suspended sentence of imprisonment or detention, or received a community service order, or
they had within the last five years been placed on probation
Well i tried everything to get out of it even deaf but to no joy. My fortnight turned to five weeks if i ever get called up again somebodys car is going missing as i rather spend 5 weeks behind bars than go through that again
Neither of us have a criminal record! We've moved around the country a fair bit but always made sure we got on the electoral register wherever we lived.
I'm sure we'd find jury service interesting - we're both reasonably well-educated, have a lot of life experience, and being retired we have plenty of free time. I've heard a rumour that people with a history of left-wing activity are less likely to be chosen. We've both been active in our respective trade unions in our time, and also used to be active in the Labour Party (until Blair took us into the Iraq War.) Am I being paranoid, or could Big Brother be watching us?!

Got called for 2 weeks service, did 3 cases in the fortnight, very interesting, no chance of falling asleep as those wooden benches were worse than church pews with hardly any leg room. Lots of boring waiting around involved between cases........Mick

Ha, oh dear, that's me out then. In all seriousness, unless you go on lots and lots of demonstrations and/or have caused some kind of trouble in the name of demonstrating you're unlikely to be affected. I think trade union activity is almost definitely fine, I'm unfortunately on a database for daring to stand outside topshop with a banner a couple of years ago. Had my name and address taken anyway.
My dad got called for jury service and then came down with an eye infection that made him look like he had a black eye. Funnily enough the defence decided not to bother having him...

I was just called for Jury service. I turned up wearing a suit (I was the only one), and I can scowl for Wales
I was soon told that i would not be required. My Jury Service lasted all of two hours.
I like your style. By instinct I would be casual but in the intetrests of not reaching the final 12 - wear a black suit, best scowl on and I thought perhaps a copy of the Daily Mail might be a nice touch?
Thats the uniform I shall wear if called. Home in no time!
