I try to keep an open mind as far as ghosts and paranormal things are concerned, but I have had a few experiances back in my Nursing days that were unexplainable and happened to other collegues on separtate occasions within the same clinical area. The most frightening was when we were working in an old Fever Isolation Hospital, the place where patients with the most serious of infectious diseases were nursed before modern day antibiotics were available.
This one had been converted into a complex for the care of the elderly, being an ex fever hospital it was down a long country lane out amoungst the fields at Etwal in Derbyshire. I was on duty one night in a Bungalow station nursing 4 private patients, all of them very frail and unable to mobilise without help from another person. I had done the drug round, cleaned and settled them into bed for the night, and went to sit at the Nurse's desk to write up my reports. All doors were locked, and windows closed. It was then that it happened, a dirty great thump on my shoulder, enough to send me flying forward off my chair. I turned around but nothing was there, I went to check that all the doors and windows were closed and locked, they were, all of my old ladies were sound asleep in their beds, so I tryed to convince myself that I had imagined it, despite a big red mark on my shoulder.
The next night, a collegue of mine, Linda, was working in the same Bungalow, and went into the linen cupboard to get fresh linen for one of the old ladies who had suffered a mishap, only to have the linen room door slam closed behind her, and she couldnt get out, no matter how hard she tried. Luckily she had her mobile phone in her pocket, something quite rare at the time in the early 1990s, and she managed to call over to the main block nursing station to get help from someone to get out. the door was actually locked, and again no evidence of any forced entrance or any other person around other than the sleeping ladies. Over the next few weeks, a few other strange things happened, a pint bottle of milk manged to move itself out of the kitchen and into one of the en-suite bathrooms, and one of the residents said that someone had been tapping her on the shoulder during the night, and was cross as she thought it was me.
Linda and I decided to do a bit of research about the old fever hospital, and the buildings surrounding the main block, we initally wondered if their were any underground air-raid shelters where maybe a tramp was living, as this had been the case on another hospital site where Linda had worked, and we thought that just maybe he had a key. But no such thing was found, although we did discover that the new bungalows where we worked with the private patients were built on the site where the previous Mortuary had stood, and the particular one we were working in was bang on the spot where the pathology room that the post-mortems were carried out in stood when it was the old Isolation Hospital.

personally never had any super-natural experiences, i know quite a few folk , normal, sane ,every-day type folk ,with nothing to gain from lying about it ,that claim to have. if fact a good friend of mind is a ghost hunter in his spare time and to be honest he do's have some convincing video footage of 'ghost's' i'll keep an open mind , neither believeing or dis-believeing, until such time as i either have my own super-natural experience or someone proves catagorically that spirits do or don't exsist. just as an aside ,though, isn't christanity founded on the beleif that christ died on the cross, was buried and rose again.....wouldn't that make JC a ghost ? as for little green men from outer space, can't see no logical reason for there not being such a creature, given the vast number of planets floating about in the universe, whether or not they'd be in anyway interested in us is another matter, again this would all be dependent on any such beings own evaloutionary status

The AA once published a very amusing book called 'Give way to Ghosts' back in the 70s, it told of all the sightings around the roads of mainland Britain, as well as listing a few famoust places and the Ghosts that were said to haunt them.
There is also a good book about the ghosts of the Norfolk broads, which tells the stories of a ghost Galleon Ship that sails out of the mist on Oulton broad, a big Black Dog called 'Old Shruk' that crosses the marshes and foot paths then disapears into thin air, and the Ghostly Monks that haunt St Bennetts Abbey ruins and the nearby riverbanks, plus a few more stories from the area. This book is still in print, and can often be found on sale in the local tourist shops and visitor centres, and it can be good fun sitting in a dimly lit boat cabin on a dark evening in the areas that the stories are told from and telling the tale to the rest of the crew lol!
