OH had high cholesterol and a genetic risk of heart problems. Rather than take statins, he first tried to reduce it naturally, which he has done. He goes for a 20-30 min brisk walk twice a day, plus the 2 badminton sessions he has always done. Tweak to the diet and less alcohol. The nurse monitored the results at first, he had to re adjust as it fell too low.
Re the slimming diet. Look at what you eat now, and see if there's any less healthy foods you could live without.
Eg, crisps, cakes, biscuits, fizzy drinks, alcohol. Cut out anything like that you're not fussed about, and that's a help towards your fewer calories. I seldom eat crisps, biscuits, fizzy and fruity drinks. My friend doesn't drink alcohol.

Wow! thanks for all the advice to put things into perspective i am not over weight i am 6 foot 5 and weigh 14 stone bmi is 24 and blood pressure is on the low side of normal but most of the weight is around my waist and i have back problems so shedding a bit will help with that. When i posted this i was a bit low thinking about whay i "couldn't" eat but heres the thing since Christmas i knew my 50th birthday was looming and i decided to make some major lifestyle changes and my diet was one of the things i wanted to change. So in a way it's not a problem going low fat/no fat i love to cook and am pursuing my new found love of meditrainan (sp) food. All i need to do now is get the exercise bit sorted out. Sure i missed my bacon sandwich on Sunday but there you go and i have discovered i can cook fish - well my wife can and i can do without my collegues hiding my lunch time salad under 6 pork pies but i feel better already probably because i am eating 3 times a day not once or sometimes twice which is what i had been doing for years. Again thanks for the messages i knew posting on here was a good idea! John now off to make fresh pasta!
