If exercise keeps you slim why do you always want to eat when you finish?

Cut out carbs from your diet, bread, cakes, pastry and potatoes and watch the weight drop off.

Because your muscles are screaming out for protein to help them recover properly.Your glycogen stores could be depleted too. This is why cyclists for example will carb load to build up and increase these energy stores.

Eat a healthy balanced diet and exercise and weight control shouldnt be an issue unless you have a medical condition.

I love a pastie but i know if i eat too many i put on weight.

my kids are all mega fit,all 4 of them. Two play in the county premier league in footie, one is in a running club and my eldest who was the least fit has discovered the gym. They all eat a lot but with the exercise they are very well proportioned.

Dont let them cycle much as the roads in surrey are so busy these days,i tend to put the bike rack on the car and take them to the local canal or windsor park. Much safer and i get out aswell.

When i was a kid in the 50s, all our School Holidays was spent outside playing Games. Those long summer weeks were great and the weather was too. My daughter has two girls 9 and 5, she has always done lots with them. Yes they have hand held games at home but they also do the energetic things too. My other Grandaughter is only 2 and the clinic said she is Obese !!she goes to Private Nursery and my Son has to pay for it, they were giving her two dinners i told them to tell the Nursery not to give her two meals that is disgraceful. She is a bit chunky but like my other grandaughter who was the same at that age is now just right. We have to be careful about what we mean by Obese, as my Grandaughter certainly is not.

i think for under 5's its a bit silly to try and calculate a bmi and thus brand them obese they all grow in different ways and growth spurts are occurring all the time they will soon grow into their frame. so you raise a good point miloson.

there is also a lot of nonsense about claiming being larger is hereditary and even though a bmi is high you may not necessarily be that obese which is pretty much nonsense and would probably only amount to half a point if that.

you only have to go into a supermarket and see how much cheaper it is to buy tons of processed crap ready in 5mins versus a healthy balanced meal that would take a little longer to cook, meat products full of water and salt. its not just that perhaps we are not quite as active as a few decades ago.

that being said i have recently lost almost 4st (4lbs to go! 9 lbs to target weight!) by using the Xbox Nike fitness game and changing my diet it, only a little more to go and its only taken 6 or 7 months exercising 3/4 times a week 45 mins to 1 hour.

It doesn't take much just a little motivation all these faddy diets and latest celebrity endorsed dvds amount to little more than a money spinning gimmick. It needs to be a realistic and long term change otherwise it will soon be back on.

I hated PE. I have dyspraxia (undiagnosed until second year of university) so I always found things like running, catching and throwing hard, and I'd get moaned at and bullied in the changing rooms......I was turned off sport completely by my first few years of secondary school, it's fortunate that I got into hiking and cycling really!

I always walked to school, although my primary school was next door to my house!

Sounds familiar. I'm not dyspraxic, but I was the smallest kid in my year, so when it came to anything involving running or jumping, I didn't stand a chance. However, in spite of bunking off most of the PE lessons in secondary school, I wasn't fat because I got so much exercise just being active...riding my bike everywhere, climbing trees, etc...all the kinds of things children these days aren't allowed to do.

So why were we so active? Well, the TV took ten minutes to warm up, and only had three channels when it did. Computer games had scarcely been invented and were, frankly, a bit rubbish. And mobile phones were the size of house bricks and only used by overpaid bankers.

A Skinny person can carry just as much fat, than a so called obese person. I am saying skinny does not always mean healthy.

I have always been very active, healthy person. It was only until, I had my son, my OH forced me to sell my horses, and he is not a sporty person.   Consequently I have put weight on. Unfortunately, I have turned into an emotional eater, with dyer consequences. I find it difficult to lose weight. The rubbish I eat is what my OH buys. Which makes it even harder. His answer is. (Don't eat it).   A lot of you will say, the same. I say, he should not buy it in the first place, if he really cares. Before now. I have binned the stuff he has bought.

It sounds as though you have other issues other than eating Heath. How could your OH force you to sell your horses or make you swallow food you don't want to eat?

I found it a very difficult time, Talisman. Thinking about it, still upsets me.

I did feel cornered, we had so many rows at that time, when I was pregnant, about the horses. I must admit I was a wreck.

OH's reason, was that, I would not have time, afford them. Or would not be able to go out. As I always had to see to them first, before we went out for the day.
Which he found annoying.

I had a fab lifestyle choice. I was able to acquire my horse, when my mum passed away. Had a big attachment. I would not have been able to buy another one, and bred a lovely foal from my mare. For my next riding horse. Which does take a lot of time and commitment. I thought it would have also been a great lifestyle for my son. As I use to take him to the stables in his buggie, he use to watch me muck out. Even though my mare was a thoroughbred. she was such a gentle giant. Very kind hearted, and loved her to bits.

I have to finish now, as I am starting feel emotional. Writing this.

I think what you are trying to say is overall fat percentage to bodyweight can still be an issue with skinny people which is true.

This is why exercise is a key factor in remaining healthy.

My DS, always say his friends are jealous, as he can eat a lot and not put on weight. I have to remind him, that he does need to have a high calorie intake; for both growth and energy, because he does high intense football training, then play football over the weekend with both or either playing with friends or matches, then has to do PE and GCSE PE at school, which takes up a lot of energy.

If he didn't use up all those calorie intake, then he would become obese.
