How can that be when pupils sit the SATs 2 months after they receive their offer of a place at secondary school?

using the results from Year 2 SATS (do they still do those?) and the predicted results from Year 6, as well as assessments made throughout the school year.
I think standards have undoubtedly improved, with better teachers who are more motivated, rather than just being content to bump along until they got a pension. There always were good and bad teachers but now the bad ones don't have an easy ride.
Tests/exams are a pain but an unavoidable fact of life. SATS are mainly used to judge the performance of the school, but can pick up on areas where an individual is struggling to master the basics.
I would agree about Mr Gove....thinks the whole education system should be run along the lines of his "old school" set somewhere in the late 1950s/early 1960s perhaps? The man is an idiot.
