"Talking yourself into being old" might be another way of describing depression. Plenty of older folk have good reason to be depressed, they might have serious health & mobility problems & they might have not much money. One needs enough income in retirement to do things one enjoys & one needs to have the health & strength to do it.

I somehow doubt there are many pensioners, fit & well financed who spend most of their time moping at home.

That's very true......

Sorry what I said meant be in a broad context and not meant specific to any body . I also have a moan at times about things or so my wife tells me . I do understand about ill health having had some serious health problems myself. I was trying to convey that a positive out look as in my case can have beneficial effects on a persons well being,Please accept my apology if any offence was taken.

We make our own worlds. The world does not make us.

ChrisandSandra, that mantra of yours gave me laugh - it should be set to music! There may even be enough of a story in it for a play!

"A 1996 survey BBC identified it as the UK’s most popular post-war poem, beating Dylan Thomas’s “Do Not Go Gentle Into that Good Night.” It’s called “Warning” and was written by Jenny Joseph (1932- ) at age 29."

I wasn't claiming it as my own, Fiona. Sorry if it read that way. I discovered it a long time ago and it echoed what a lot of older people have said to me in the past. I think it just sums up how I feel about life now and when I was younger.

I'm convinced that every new decade brings with it a new set of ailments.

At 40, I started getting problems with my neck, which was eventually diagnosed as degenerative disc disease. In my 50s, I started getting more widespread aches and pains. After some years and lots of tests, scans etc, it transpired that I have arthritis in my spine, hips, knees and hands.

I turned 60 a few months. All of a sudden, I seem to be having trouble hearing and my bladder isn't quite what it used to be!

I reckon that by the time I hit 70, the only thing left to go will be my marbles. Now, what did I come in here for?

I thought that on sentencing the judge had told you that while Savile got away with it, that using that quote wasn't an acceptable excuse.

Iused to live in a small village middle of nowhere and a large garden to lok after. Not a lot to do apart from the garden and at 72 was getting a strugle. Decided to mopve where we are now with a small garden and easy to look after. Got involved with one or two little organisations and plenty of friends here.Very happy and I know damn sure i would be the most grumpy bloke around if i was still where i lived. 79 and not too bad health wise and happy as larry.

As a mere stripling of 63, things certainly creak more than they used to. There's osteo arthritis in the family and it's starting to make its presence felt. I do quite a bit of sewing, and the old thumbs are getting rather cranky! Still having fun knocking up machine patchwork though, and looking forward to the ukulele I'll be receiving from Christmas from daughter and hubby. Hang in there, folks!

I got a new keyboard for Christmas. If you didn't live so far away we could form a creaky band.
