Our sub won't fit behind and the boss prefers the log basket to be in her line of sight. So the sub sits by the end of the sofa opposite, firing down onto a marble slab for rigidity. There's power there and long optical audio cables are readily available.

About 3 years ago I decided to turn the sound down on all
TV channels,Because I now seldom watch TV unless its for something specific,TV has been dumbed down to such an extent that its no longer worth watching.

Really? Wow.

Just in recent and current stuff; PE II, Black Mirror, The Crown, No Offence, Taboo, Midwife, Catastrophe, The Replacement, Broadchurch, Homeland, Line of Duty S4 later this month etc etc.

Depends on taste of course, but there's plenty of high quality, high production value content out there.

It's not all quiz shows and baking/dancing/singing.

I think it depends on what priorities we have, I get a far better buzz from working on my motorcycles in my workshop.

And that's great. We should all have our interests. What I'd found amazing was your comment that "TV has been dumbed down to such an extent that its no longer worth watching". In our house there's plenty of quality entertainment without reality rubbish which really is the pits

The low dimensional morality that passes for entertainment on present day television has no place in my life or my home, If others find it acceptable to them ,thats fine as far as I am concerned.

You are completely ignoring the quality drama and documentaries that are available. The rest of the rubbish can be ignored of course.

Wow. First it's dumbed down, then it's "low dimensional morality".

Must have missed that on Planet Earth II.

But then, animals, tsk, what can you expect.

Got my Samsung Sound bar and woofer
The woofer is wired and sat behind the tv hope this is ok?
What do I set the bass and treble to though? Just a rough idea will do as I don’t have a clue
I have set the Bluetooth up for my phone and playing music through the sound bar now.
Must say though nessum and dorma sounds a bit flat
Thanks

The sub sat behind is fine; it can be sited anywhere, especially if it's speaker "fires" downwards. There's a school of thought if it fires rearwards it's best in a corner.

I can see the 355 on Samsung's site here:

https://www.samsung.com/uk/audio-video/soundbar-j355/

...and the manual is here:

http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201503/20150310112456416/AH68-02823F-........

At a quick glance I can't see any particular siting recommendations for the sub, other than the usual re adequate ventilation etc. It appears as if the system is designed to be always on.

There's sound controls on the remote and you might need to run it a bit and experiment with different settings to get to what sounds right to you. Start off at the mid-points and go from there.

Whatever anybody says, there's no "right" setting; it's what sounds right to you, and it might vary between your sources (TV, phone, PVR etc). A bit of trial and error is all part of the fun.

Good luck

Trek, you might need to play around. Is the TV audio still on? if it is, it might be interfering with the overall soundfield.

How is the TV and the bar connected?

You've connected the sub to the bar, right?

I'd try Sound (for surround), Sound Effect, Sound Control (to get at what used to be called the graphic equaliser bands on an old school stack hi-fi), and the sub-woofer volume.

From the reviews it should do reasonably OK, for its price point. It's just a case of finding the right settings for your living room.

Yes, we've had exactly the same problem recently... had to turn the volume quite a long way up so that we're not straining to hear it and then turn it right down again so that the adverts aren't being shouted at us... it's a pain.. hoping they've got someone working on it

The TV sound is turned off
How is the TV and the bar connected? optical cable
they could have said to take the end caps off first though I was trying for a while to plug the leads in and not getting anywhere
You've connected the sub to the bar, right? yes that's connected

Going to let my sons play with it but I can now hear sounds that you couldn't with the tv speakers
I have even got the app for the sound bar on my phone :)
Thanks

All good

Sorry I forgot about the optical cable caps. The sockets also have a sort of shutter on them

Presumably it's to ensure nothing's damaged in transit or gets dirt in.
