Its along the full length of my soles and my hands that I get very painful cramps.
At its worse even holding a knife and fork to eat a meal is really painful. My hands just seem to lock with cramp, especially my thumbs.
Its been like that for a couple of years, should really go to the doctors as I have tried various things like others have mentioned.

That could be:
"Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a medical condition due to compression of the median nerve as it travels through the wrist at the carpal tunnel. The main symptoms are pain, numbness, and tingling, in the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and the thumb side of the ring fingers".

As others have said quinine in tonic water, eating more bananas helps but the usual cause is not drinking enough water or low salt in the diet
Thanks, don't eat bananas as I try to low carb but maybe I should have one a day.
If you don't like them try a multi vitamin and mineral supplement instead, they'll also give you a vitamin D boost which good especially at this time of year :)
I have a one a day tablet along with my cod-liver oil one
Other half gets night cramps. Aggravated by not drinking enough water or stretching calf muscles/exercising enough. GP advised quinine but I got him to go back & not take the tablets/drink tonic water as he has tinnitus. (Quinine can worsen tinnitus including irreversibly! ). GP had not considered this but cancelled the presciption immediately. There are exercises to help stretch muscles before bed.
Apart from DVT other causes of calf pain include Baker's Cyst. Definitely go back & press the GP.
