I have a lifesaving certificate from years back but nearly drowned myself the last time I went out of my depth, so don't expect this lifesaver to save you if you fall into deep water, David.

I'll remember that bob, so will avoid deep water if you are around these parts, but thanks for the warning.
A purely hypothetical scenario based on the above...
Imagine if you will...
Said poster and non-swimmer "David" happens across the mythical and wondrous creature that is "Old Bob"...
There is deep water in the immediate vicinity...
After 5 minutes of interaction between the two, would aforementioned non-swimmer "David" still take preference to head for aforementioned deep waters and take his chances of survival there, rather than remain in the company of said mythical and wondrous creature that is "Old Bob"?
Sorry... just thinking out loud!
