Hi, is it worth going away in the caravan due to all this extra lock down rules where it is so confusing, some do not belive in it, some where masks, some do not,
so looks like I will sit at home and watch the news
no its not worth it, we have done the same as you, along with several other people on this group, the nearest we have done to caravanning this year has been to check in the storage yard to see if everything is ok with the caravan, i couldnt be doing with the hassle of other people and their kids running around the pitch and generally being unrespectfull
That could be any time covid or not. We've got away four times, and enjoyed every time. We go for the peace of it, not hustle and bustle. There wont be many kids on sites now anyway, and if you choose sensibly - none.

I notice that most of the contributors to this thread are caravan or campervan owners who may well have their own facilities which makes things a little less worrying.
I agree with you, David...pre Covid I went camping in order to visit villages and tourist attractions (not so much towns and cities) and other places of interest where more often that not there would be quite a few people around.
As a solo tent camper, in the evenings I enjoyed visiting olde worlde pubs in the villages, having a meal and then a few drinks at the bar where more often than not I had a pretty enjoyable evening chatting to locals or listening to their banter. Since it's not really possible to do those things now, camping would be far less enjoyable, and sitting in a field in the evenings knocking back a bottle of wine all on my own would be totally boring and pointless
Even though we are caravanners Bob, and have our own facilities, like you we normally go to visit places, not to sit in the caravan or on the campsite. We decided it just wasn't worth the hassle this year and enjoyed our garden instead. We are lucky here though as there's all the peace and quiet we want. Not even any traffic noise. Some sites we have been on, even in the quieter periods when we go, have been noisier than home.
------------- Best Regards,
Colin

Sitting at home and watching the news is probably the worst thing you could do.
I like the quote that goes something like:
'A ship may seem safe when it's moured in the harbour but that's not what ships were made for.'
There's an idea known as the hygiene hypothesis which states that we sometimes need some exposure to pathogens and antigens in order for our immune systems to adapt to them and respond appropriately.
Living in an overly sanitised world, staying indoors and avoiding human contact probably isn't the answer to potential health problems and probably does more harm than good - especially in the long term.
People of my generation have probably been exposed to far more germs etc than younger people are today. Some of the things I got up to as a kid would give today's parents a heart attack! Climbing trees in the woods, playing at building dams with mud in the stream, sluicing the worst of the mud off my hands in the stream, drying my hands on my trousers then getting out my sandwiches to eat was just considered normal behaviour, as was handing round a bottle of pop among friends.
As for today though with a new and nasty virus around which tends to have worst effects on those of my generation, staying at home and minimising contact just seems like sensible precautions to me. As does staying local and not spreading it all over the country, so that is what I will be doing. After all, it's no real hardship today, what with social media, telephones, zoom etc. Just imagine what it would have been like if this had happened 40 or 50 years ago, with no internet, and far fewer people having any kind of phone. My parents didn't have a phone until after I got married, and I think they only got one then because I had moved out and was living 60 miles away.
------------- Best Regards,
Colin
