Someone somewhere (not lately) is supposed to have scraped 6" of rather cloudy from their car roof. Frost here not so thick as the previous night but it's colder if anything. Red alert for the aurora tonight as well, doubt we will see it.

Doubt whether we'll see it either. The back of our house faces north but if we look in that direction there is too much light pollution from a town 2-3 miles away. Coldest night so far this year here, it's still only 1 degree outside and I don't really expect it to get much warmer. Sky is dull and grey, it looks like it could snow any time.

For the last few mornings, I have had to spend time defrosting the car in order to get to work. It’s not too bad when you are at home and you are expecting it. However, last night, when I was leaving the youth group I help out in, at about 10.15pm, my car was frozen solid in the car park and I didn’t have the luxury of home to defrost it. I had to sit in the car park for about 15 minutes with the engine running and the heater on to try and defrost it enough to start the drive home. I think that’s the first time in many years when I have had to defrost the car other than first thing in the morning. Note to self - go and buy a can of de-icer to keep in the car!

Bit 'warmer' (I use that word advisedly!) here on this morning's dog walk, only around freezing point, and a very light frost, but quite a heavy mist/low cloud, no tall buildings visible but clearish at ground level, but by God didn't the chill get into your bones! - and with no wind, no wind chill effect to account for it! Well wrapped up, face covered, woolly hat on, gloves only off for rapid dog poo pick up, but despite very brisk walking pace and minimal doggy 'sniffing stops' I just couldn't keep the chill out, VERY glad to get back home in the warm!

Went out on Thurs eve. about 7.45pm and my car was totally iced up, took a good 10 mins with engine running to get the inside of windscreen and windows to demist (even with rapid demist tech!) and heat outside enough to stop deicer refreezing and have good enough visibility to drive safely! Car thermometer was saying -2C, but it felt much colder!

My Aurora alarm's been pinging regularly for last couple of days, but reckon it's a snow flake in Hell's chance of seeing it this far south AND with the massive light pollution of London, AND my view north is virtually through the arch of a certain stadium, and last night it was illuminated for the footy match, so more likely to win the lottery even though I don't buy a ticket! Thought (hoped!) I might get to see it when I was up in Lake District beginning of Nov, when my Aurora app kept pinging at me, but the weather didn't play ball and it was always cloudy - one day, I live in hope.

Scraped what, from their car roof??

Have to say; having heated windscreen/mirrors really helps shift the frost in a morn. With the last truck; i used to have to go round with a milk bottle of warm water to clear it all. But it was still quicker than the bloke over the road who spends a good 20 minutes with scrapers and de-icer every single time. Despite watching myself come out/swill/wipe away excess and drive off inside 5 minutes. Cant weigh him up.

-3 yesterday. A bit warmer today. Had to go 60km on the motorbike yesterday morning. Quite slippery but the main roads were fine.

Just reading reports of cars stuck in Cumbria and as usual the complaints are that no one has been to help. Where do they expect help to come from when roads are blocked?

Also amused they are 'running out of water', one driver is 'rationing it'!

I'm pretty sure if you put snow in a warm environment you can then drink it.

You need to melt a lot of snow to get enough to drink. It can be as much as 30 litres of snow to get a litre. You also have to avoid the yellow and brown snow.

Slightly warmer today (5 instead of 3). Dull and grey with drizzle most of the day, including a bit of sleet earlier this afternoon. Local forecast is for 7 tomorrow and rain.
