Hi Bessie500, I was on a hiatus from here for a while, but I am back now, I no longer have a company car, and to be fair I am glad to see the back of it, the final nail in the coffin was when the firm decided that the insurance was only for UK, and we could no longer take our company cars outside of the UK, added to that the firm had gone down the road (pun intended) of replacing our cars every 4 months or 8k miles which ever came last, I was doing 2k business miles each month, also they decided we had to pay for any damage to the vehicles, like scuffs to the alloys, and paint scratches etc, after that news redundancy could not have come quick enough, one of the guys on our team was presented with a bill of £2000 for repairs to the company car he had, as part of his redundancy package, he of course told them to stick there bill were the sun don't shine, although I think they deducted it from his final package anyway.
The reason why I say the Tesla Model Y is the best car in the world, is because one day there will be no more fossil cars around, and by that time Tesla will reap the ten year advantage that they already have over other automakers anyway, and remember what I said about Tesla going to 48v for all the ancillary electrics, lights, window motors etc, straight away there is a 75% reduction in cable size required, and also battery tech will have advanced to the point were 500 miles range will be std.

I think the days of no ICE cars are still quite a way off. I doubt I'll ever see them.
To be honest I can't see the point of going for 48 volt auxiliary electrics. 75% reduction in cable size? Really? What's the point? Smaller cable sizes in a motor vehicle will just make them more fragile and prone to damage by vibration. Then there is the question of it being non-standard. The only advantage I can see of going 48 volt is to the benefit of Tesla. Non-standard means that any electrical equipment you buy for the car, whether it be spares like lights, motors, or accessories, will have to come from Tesla. Doesn't sound good to me from the point of view of the driver.
As for battery tech, yes it might develop more, but to my way of thinking it hasn't really come all that far in the past 60 years, and given the law of diminishing returns...... Batteries are lighter it's true, but there is only so much electrical energy you can pack into a given space.

Yes, I wonder how as well madasaman, but going back on topic, I am told insurance on any Tesla for private owners is eyewatering, so much so that I think Tesla now offer there own insurance, although that is probably sky high as well, I guess the majority of Tesla's that I see on the road are firms cars, not private motorists, I do see the odd ageing Tesla Model S, which I guess might be privately owned, would be interesting to know what insurance cost is on those older Tesla's, first released in UK 2014, it would also be interesting to know how the ten year old battery is holding out.
Of course Tesla have now dropped both the Model S & Model Y from the UK line up, so now only offer two models, Model 3 (E !) & Model Y for the UK.
