Stations outside the city centre - great - somewhere to park.

Some of the above comments would seem to suggest that most travellers live in the city centre close to the station and that by building a new station outside the city time will be wasted travelling to the new station. Am I correct in suggusting that this is bunkum. People tend to live away from the city centre/station and the journey to the station is the same no matter what.

Time cut by 40 mins - great. I don't seem to remember people moaning that times should be as they were in the olden days and that the new generations of trains were a waste of money as each new faster train was unveiled.

I'll be well in to my eighties by the time it arrives. Will I use it? I blooming well hope so - as long as I don't go into one of these duff hospitals!

Every one has mentioned the disruption that will occur during the construction phase of HS2. If you want to see disruption have alook at the plans for the RECONSTRUCTION of Euston for now that's disruption.

London also has Crossrail 2 to look forward to. This will include a "Mega Station" to include Euston, St Pancras and Kings Cross.

Finally the point has been raised about increasing capacity of the current Network. How lay more tracks alongside present ones. Not possible for the WCML. More trains, Not possible for the WCML.

Restore some lines that were closed by Dr Beeching. This is extremely difficult as a lot of trackbeds have been built on.

One last question who was the Minister of Transport during Dr Beeching's reign. One Ernest Marples a director of Marples Ridgwayl. The company who built the M1

£30"billion todays cost!! We all must know that it will be at least £60 billion before it is competed. Building it creates jobs but after completion how will it lift the economy in East Anglia, Wales, Cornwall and Scotland. If indeed Scotland remain in the uk. Its not difficult to see how millions will never ever use it! But those millions will all pay for it!

We keep hearing the phrase that from Manchester or Birmingham we can be in London in no time, I wonder if the London people are having it rammed down their throats that they can be in Wolverhampton, Stoke or Derby in less that 2 hours?

Who would want to be in London longer than they need to be? Won't be coming anywhere near us - they won't even by-pass the two villages on the A75 - Euro Route 18 - so no danger of a high speed choochoo!

Ha ha, I know what you mean, the only reason I will be in London for one day this year is my wife has never been and as we will be camping for a few days near Windsor it will be handy to go for the day.

I will probably be dead before they keep the promise to upgrade the A1 between Newcastle and Edinburgh to dual carriageway all the way.

My wife asked the very same question yesterday when we were told how many people had bought brand new houses on 1 development alone. Somebody has got some money, but I dont know who, cos it aint me.

The Line is coming nowhere near to where I live but I think that it is a crying shame that large areas of our countryside are going to be ripped up not to mention the disruption to peoples lives that do indeed live near to the line, we should stand up and put pressure onto the goverment to upgrade the existing line instead.

But to upgrade the existing line will also result in disruption, loss of countryside and significant cost. I'm not saying one is right and the other is wrong but the stock answer of upgrading the existing infrastructure is not without the issues that are also quoted for not building HS2.

will this h/s/train not be effected by the 'wrong type' of snow or the 'wrong type' of leaves .. high enough for lines 'not' to be flooded .. if so it would be cheaper to use the technolagy on the existing network and perhaps then that would run on time ...and therefor 'be quicker'

it will only be quicker for those who live near the stations, from wigan the trains on the wcml take 2hr 12mins to london with one stop (warrington)it will take me approx 40mins to get to the new station so no time gain, oh and having to change, more time lost!
