A few years ago we lost Sandy.A 15 year old wire haired terrier we had from a pup.We had to have her put to sleep,and I never expected to cry at the vets but I did.I was was a 47 y/o man and I could not believe the loss of that dog would leave such a hole in our lives.She came everywhere with us,even camping.

We have replaced her now after a long time of not wanting to put ourselves through the upset again.The only consolation is that time is a great healer,and the memories these animals leave behind are priceless.

We are sorry for your loss,your post brought back some sad memories of when we went through the same thing.

Thank you both, feeling a bit better about it all today, spoke to the vets and they said we did the right thing for her.

Just seen this and so sorry for your loss. We lost our cat who came to stay the month we were married so was my furry baby as a newly wed.

We had gone to vets on Saturday due to weight loss to be told it felt like she had a liver tumour. Nothing to be done apart from a steroid and vit B injection to help build her up and ikely to be months - give her lots of tasty fishy treats and chicken, plus her normal food, small meals often. See you in a month parting comment.

Sunday night, she was a little sick. Monday evening and she was looking a little under the weather, then during the night was sick again. At four in the morning found her on the kitchen floor and when I tried to get her upstairs realised she couldn't stand. She wasn't complaining so didnt want to wake vet on call. Phoned vet at 8 went in at 9 and sge was gone naturally by half past.

Still think of her, look for her, go to call her when we get up, go out, get home, etc. So can understand some of how you're feeling.

I hope things are getting a little easier day by day, and thinking of you.

Aw poor you, what a shame but thankfully quite swift and she didn't suffer.

We are ok, been an awful week and missing her hugely. Going to sleep and waking up with an empty floor beside me.

We have arranged coffee with a friend on Good Friday. She has a good knowledge of various breeds, terriers in particular, and experience of their, ahem, stroppy temperaments. We are going to discuss what might go with Misty and how to go about introducing them etc.

I really want another scottie but can't see it happening.   A young adult, not a pup.

So pleased that you are now looking forward and possibly planning your new addition, it didn't take us very long to get another chum just couldn't bear the emptiness, we now have Cooper a 9mnth old Border Collie.

We have had two collie/greyhound/deerhound lurcher X's and our handsome Monty who was a GSDxCollie, looked at getting a smaller dog (more camping space), but never having had a terrier breed we didn't really have the experience of terrier ways. So we went for a breed we know Coops is half the size of Monty so we have gained a bit of extra room in the car.

Hope you find a new chum for Misty and yourselves soon, will keep checking back to watch your progress xxx

Only just seen this, Ali, and I'm so sorry. Terriers are such big characters they leave an unfeasibly large void when they leave us.

I'm glad to see you're thinking of getting another. Probably best before the JR starts getting ideas above her station!

Thank you people and yes, a massive great hole. We took Misty out with us today, she came into two outdoorsy shops and is now chewing a marrow bone.

Working on getting her to be sociable and OH is going to do some lessons and maybe agility with her if her eyesight allows.
