I suppose as you never had a test you'll never know if it was Covid or not. Covid and flu might both be described as a 'viral chest infection'.
Flu symptoms are a fever plus the symptoms that go with that, dry harsh cough, fatigue, aches and pains. Not necessarily cold symptoms with runny nose, sneezing etc.

In January my OH had exactly the same symptoms as Mick S mentions, and I had a bad chest infection. We've wondered if it was an early incidence of Covid.
If so, it might mean we are immune - it would be useful to find out.

Apparently according to scientific study there is no immunity as it can re-occur in people that have had Covid19.

I don't think that is correct, there have been a tiny handful of people who have had the infection twice but otherwise people do develop immunity. If they didn't antibodies to Covid 19 would not be detectable or able to be extracted from plasma for treatment , which they have. Vaccine testing has also shown that people develop immunity. What is not yet known is how long immunity will last for.

Yes I think that is right. Some scientists have been saying that they believe immunity is probably quite short lived, so if/when a vaccine is developed, it will probably have to be given at least annually like the flu vaccine. Not a one-off like with measles.

I doubt it was actually Covid, although the symptoms were very similar. I have always been prone to chest infections anyway, which is why I have been extra careful with the Covid risk. Not that much of a hardship for me as I'm retired and don't like crowded places at the best of times.

We haven't been away at all this year, only odd days out to places that we knew would be quiet. The only beaches we have been on this year the nearest other person was probably at least 50 yards away. Only been to a supermarket a few times, when it was particularly quiet, and hardly any other shops at all. Most of what we have bought has been delivered. I have done some of my usual volunteering, but only at times and places where I knew I would be on my own.

I live in Oldham which has the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the UK.I have just found out that the ward we live in has the most cases recorded this week in Oldham. I am shocked as there appears to be no reason for this surge in cases unless it has to do with
people coming round from the council offering doorstep testing. This was last week. If this is the case how many more areas, not offered doorstep testing, have people unknowingly carrying the virus with no symptoms. Very worrying.

This is one of the things that concerns me. There are people out there who are infectious but have no symptoms. Some of them may get symptoms within the next 10 days, but others will never develop symptoms. How many people will they infect before they realise that they are infectious, if they ever do?

I've wondered whether this has been with us longer than February. At New Year, a mate had exactly the prolonged cough described as being a symptom. It lasted a week, then he lost it. A month later, i had a fever and the shakes for 2 days, then i lost it. Had either case been a few weeks later, we would have been nailed on for covid testing.

There has to be loads of incidences where people can contract the virus, and be ill in differing increments of seriousness, from not even knowing, to dying, and everything in between.

Funny you should say that. I was ill myself about this time last year and it started with a dry cough and a temperature, then progressed to extreme fatigue. By the end of the month I was just starting to feel better and able to get about a bit, and by the middle of December I feel well enough to go back to volunteering. So that was probably about 6 weeks in all. We hadn't even heard of Covid then! Over the phone my GP had diagnosed a "viral chest infection".

I was very poorly last December in the run up to Christmas I had a terrible cough and viral chest infection, temperature and fatigue. All in all I was I'll for about 5 weeks.
On Christmas Eve my husband started to feel unwell and was quite poorly on Christmas Day. He started to eat his Christmas Dinner and said that he couldn't taste it, he was achy and ended up going to bed. Between the two of us we've had all the symptoms of Covid 19. However I guess we'll never know if we had it or not.

I think Covid has been with us longer than we were told. I also believe it was rampant in China long before the world knew. I had all the symptoms at the end of February and was still unwell months later - fatigued, recurring sore ears and throat and a low immune system resulting in frequent colds. Only now do I feel back to normal. My gp believes it was covid but there was no testing back then.

When you think about it, it had to have been in China well over a month to develop large enough to be noticed as something different to the norm. Possibly 3 months?? The whole of Wuhan didnt get it on the same day it materialised. So if they were flagging something 'new' up in January, it could easily have been developing there, then slowly spreading around the world from October if you work the spread and how it develops, backwards.

I have wondered if I had it back in February. I work in a university where there are a lot of Chinese students, many of whom went home for Chinese New Year which was towards the end of January. In early February I had many of the COVID symptoms and felt really really unwell for 2 weeks and then moderately unwell for a further 2. Back then, there wasn’t supposed to be any COVID in the UK so I thought nothing of it. A couple of my colleagues had the same thing around the same time and I do wonder if it might have been the virus. We will never know I suppose.

The first recorded case in the UK was Jan 29th,that doesn't necessarily mean that there weren't undetected cases here before that.
