It could be a good idea if only people who were experts in crime etc were allowed to stand.
But I reckon it will be more well-paid jobs for career politicians who know nothing about life.

Quite the premonition from Alan, if the results for Greater Manchester are anything to go by...

In the Greater Manchester area, the candidates for the PCC position included an independent candidate who is a long-standing magistrate and judicial chairman with a wealth of experience of police, CPS and probation agencies, and a Lib-Dem sponsored former bobby with 30 years of front-line policing experience across all 10 GMP boroughs.

Unfortunately, over 50% of the votes cast went to the labour candidate, a 30+ year career politician with no more experience of policing than you or I, and whose election statement was just a targeted attack at the coalition government with a few Daily Mail pleasing platitudes thrown in.

I give in. People are dumb.

Oh dear, the smiley at the end was all in vain, and when you consider how many charities have lots of unpaid, voluntary workers who don't even get expenses...
but then again, I did lay the bait, and even though I said "Now let's see some reactions....", I didn't expect the Pavlonian conditioned-reflex quite so quickly......
(note the smiley again...)
