The VW Golf BlueMotion Mk6 firms car that I drive is a stunner, there are two 12v Sockets, one up front and the other in the boot.

Being campers these sockets get a lot of abuse, so I thought best look in the handbook, to see which number fuse would need to be replaced in case it ever blows.

All the handbook stated was consult dealer! so I phoned the dealer and all they said was bring the car in and we will fix it, so the conversation ended there.

So I dropped a raw bolt into the Socket, in order to cause the fuse to blow, then checked all the 10amp fuses to see which one had blown, as it turned out it was one of the 20amp! fuses, which was a bit of a surprise.

The replacement 20amp fuse is a different shade to the rest, so will be easy to locate in the event of a real life failure, the fuse number I have written in the handbook, where it says consult dealer.

Modern cars eh!

The designer of the Land Rover Discovery 3 and the Range Rover Sport, which is based on the same chassis/ running gear, need shooting.

The engine has two timing belts, one at the front and one at the back of the engine.

When it comes to changing the rear belt (around 100,000 miles) or any work replacing the turbo, it means the whole body is supposed to be lifted off the car to get to it.

With my last two Mondeos, and probably my current Focus, the grille and headlamp had to be removed to replace a bulb, according to the handbook.

I took mine to the local Ford main dealer and they fitted it free in about 2 minutes, just charging for the bulb (less than the cost of a bulb from Half**ds).

They had obviously put the car up on the ramp and done it from underneath without removing the grille and headlamp.

Bernie I've just changed the o,s,f headlight bulb in my car (mondeo) took 5 mins yes you take the headlight out but you just unclip 1 side if the grille, I doubt you could do it any other way even with a ramp as access from underneath would be worse

On my 02 mondeo the headlights are held in place by 2 metal bars that simply slide upwards out of their slots. The grill is held in by 2 quarter turn buttons. Total time to remove the lights is literally just a couple of minutes depending on how stiff the metal slides are to remove

X TRAIL. 2.2 DIESEL.Replace fuel filter. What a faff. The filter is enclosed in a cage ....why?? Plenty of effing and blinding, and knuckle rash involved. Anyone else had a go at this or is it just me. Pain in the posterior.

There was a piece on the news about keyless ignition being cloned to steal cars.
A friends wife was loaned a Ford Fester while her car was being repaired. The keyless entry/ignition system was a joke, the car could be opened and started while the keys were on her dressing table
