What is old anyway?
I'm classed as middle aged. I don't feel middle aged. The young ones at work come to me about tech but, alas, they don't know what a BBCb was.
Opensauce was speaking a lot of sense......for an oldie

I think "older " people are being under estimated and seen as senile if they don't accept modern tech such as smart phones etc according to one poster.

would you like to provide evidence?

Why should VangoMan02 have to provide evidence on his opinion? I do not understand your comment.

Plenty are now working well beyond retiring age so are probably doing jobs that require IT skills & may have to use smartphone as part of their working lives. Age demograghics as to smartphone usage can be found via google & there is plenty of evidence of computer literacy in older age. In fact computerised systems have been around for decades so many older people will have been familiar with computer use for decades also & will have progressed along with the ongoing technolgy advances.

I think to point to anybody of 87 as an example of somebody who does not get technolgy is not helpful. Many people who succeed in living into their late 80s may find their facilities failing & those close to them should take steps to ensure they do not become victims of financial abuse in some way.

My wife helps run a Lace Makers Group, where nearly all the members are "aged", the oldest being well into her 80's. Out of the 50+ members all bar 3 have email addresses and request that all their communication is done that way. Their oldest member is 89 and my wife was having a long email conversation with her the other night that included attachments and sound bites from her recent tour to Asia.
She is also involved with the WI locally and nearly everything they do is now web based, and their oldest member is over 90, has her own Smart Phone, email account and is on Facebook and uses Messenger!
The local Classic Car Group I am a member off has gone to solely Facebook and Email and has increased it's membership, and nearly all of us are over 60. The Secretary who runs the FB Group is over 70.

Age is not a limitation!

I agree with you. In fact, here, it is vital - though that's assuming you can get the Internet, which is very limited in some places - only a year ago my top speed was 0.5Mbps! And I don't think we'll go into mobile phone coverage.....!

I'm not techie, but I can sort out most of the basic issues and, failing that, DS is on call!!! My late Dad, although very slow as he wasn't great with the keyboard, learned how to use emails in his 95th year - he passed away at 97.
