Wow, that's really doing it in style. I've seen a couple of light aircraft round here recently, though I doubt if they were going to the beach.

We often see light aircraft around here as there are several operational GA airfields in the area. We are under the Stansted flight path too but only for landings and we have seen very few commercial aircraft compared to normal times.

That pilot who landed at RAF Valley should have the book thrown at him. Not only did he break the Covid regulations, but he made an unauthorised non-emergency landing on a closed runway upon which work was being carried out. He therefore possibly endangered those who may have been working on that runway at the time. If it was up to me he would lose his licence.

It's interesting to look at this area on Google maps and you can see the outlines of numerous WW2 RAF stations. One of them (formally RAF Longside) is now used for private flying. I imagine that most of the light aircraft I see are based there. If anyone should want to fly in, landing fees are £5 for a two seater. Fuel can be arranged. The main RAF base was at Dyce and is now Aberdeen airport. We still see helicopters going to and from the oil rigs, but not as many as pre-lockdown.

Likewise around this area Capt. The biggest of course was RAF Stansted, (now London Stansted Airport) once used by the USAF for B52 bombers, which is why it has one of the longest runways in Europe. You can land virtually anything there. It also has a big security force presence, which is why any aircraft with potential terrorist activity onboard get diverted there. RAF North Weald is still active for private flying and houses an RAF museum. It is also used by the Air-Ambulance and I think the police helicopters use it now too.

The Hospital car service in Somerset is suspended during the pandemic, even if it weren't I wouldn't qualify as a cataract op in't considered to be an emergency and patients are expected to find their own way there.
Another problem is I live in Somerset and the hospital is in Dorset, Somerset hospital car service wouldn't take me anyway.
I'm not worried about myself I am concerned that by using public transport could I come into contact with the virus and then take it into what is a Covid free area.
I'm not allowed ,at this point in time, to stay o/night and even if I were there are no hotels open for business.
At the moment I am waiting for the result of my HBA1C diabetes check, if it is raised they won't operate anyway,it's a matter of waiting and cross each bridge as I come to it.
Th only reason I posted on this thread is because I have access to a motorhome and I could drive and stay overnight but I expect that would go down like a lead balloon with the locals!

That is certainly what happens around here.

I have sympathies for Saxo. My hospital contacted me a couple of days ago regarding long-awaited MRI scan and other tests. I have to go to Glasgow though and by public transport. (Taxi, if available, Oban to Glasgow one is a minimum of £200.) The lifeline ferry service doesn't fit the lifeline train time (we're still on 5 miles max so no need) and the trip plus tests can't be done in a day and there's nowhere open to stay overnight! So, although the hospital want to do the tests, I cannot go. Frustrating and scary.
