to hijack this thread just "slightly"......

We are staying near holywell bay next month and I'm wondering if anyone has advice on doggy friendly days out. I'm hoping for good weather which obviously makes leaving him in the car impossible so I need to plan days out where pooch will be welcome (also any doggy friendly/child friendly pubs that do decent grub)
Ta x
just to hijack the thread a tad more, we're going to the Torquay area in mid september and looking for good days out/beaches/places to eat were they allow dogs in too, as we too are hoping for good weather.....wishfull thinking I know

there are two nice pubs in Holywell bay, both allow dogs inside. You can also go on the beach with your dog, it's my favorite beach anywhere. The Watering Hole pub in Perranporth is literally on the beach and dogs are allowed inside, and on nthe beach.

Days out we enjoyed with the dog are Cornish Cyder Farm which has a great shop with sampling, and also does nice cream teas, and The Seal Sanctuary which is a lovely day out. Our dog loved seeing the seals

cheers for these suggestions, they're on the list now

One thing re. the cyder farm is that (I think) the factory is closed at weekends, so you don't get to see the presses, etc in action. It doesn't really affect the tour but it's worth nothing. The staff were really knowledgeable (Sophia took us around the tour) and it's a nice way to learn about the cyder before you sample and buy it.

There are also a few animals and a tractor tour of the orchards, so even young children should be occupied whilst the "responsible" adults indulge :D

My favourite beach is Sennen Cove, not far from Lands End.

One evening we sat in the car park watching the sun go down with a pasty and chips. There were dolphins in the bay doing all sorts of tricks.

One of my highlights of that holiday.

A little known superb beach is treyarnon bay up towards padstow. Its accessed via some narrow lanes but well worth it.When the tide goes out there is a huge rock pool you can swim in but you cant see it from the beach, a hidden gem.
When the tide goes out there are loads of water pools for you set up by, brilliant if you have kids.

I used to go here as a kid and we have been taking our two to it as adults, its still a superb beach as not many visit it.

I think the road down to Treyarnon puts a few people off,we use it most of the time as we stay at Carnevas site at the end of the road and love it.

Some good suggestions... Love Padstow and disagree with the negative Rick Stein fish n chips comment - they are some of the best fish n chips I've eaten (and I've eaten a lot of good ones living in Yorkshire!). Well worth queing! His pub in nearby St Merryn is nice too. The Loster Hatchery in Padstow is really cool and good boat trips/ fishing trips. Camel Trail great for cycling. Camel Valley Wines is a lovely vinyard and do tours/ tastings if you are interested in that (their sparkling wine is fab).

Good beaches around Padstow/ Rock/ Polzeath/ Constantine. Watergate Bay (Jamie Oliver also has a Fifteen restaurant there which is great). Lots of surf beaches around here and you can get lessons, hire boards, kayaks etc. Bedruthen Steps between Padstow and Newquay is a beautiful and unusual beach with massive rock "arrangements" (very steep steps down the cliffs to get to it though). Porthcurno, Sennen, Kynance Cove...

Some lovely places to eat in St. Ives (Pothminster Porthwwidden, Porthmeor beach cafes). The Tate in St.Ives is "interesting" if it's wet.We' don't really "get" that sort of modern art but still enjoyed a look around one hideously wet afternoon. Nice town to mooch around.

Lizard (Southernmost point in mainland UK) is lovely and miles better than Lands End, which is rubbush (IMO). Nice cafe right on Lizard Point. Make it your mission to track down Ann's Pasty shop in Lizard Village - best pasties in Cornwall (therefore by definition in the world).

Minack Theatre is fab, as others have said, even if you just look around and don't catch a performance.

I'll add a few more which I don't think have been mentioned yet:

St. Michael's Mount - lovely NT property and nice "Island" setting. Nice place to explore. Check opening times/ days before you go as it was closed when we tried first time.

The Tin Mines at Geevor - really interesting, surprising and a very touching tribute to the miners who worled there. Good if it's wet.

There is an interesting second hand book shop/ cafe in St. Just (good if it's raining and they do really nice cream teas).

A must is to walk part of the SW Coast path - check out the website for some nice circualr short(ish) walks. Suggestions - Padstow to Harlyn, Lizard to Cadgwith, Cadgwith is a traditional fishing village with fishing boats pulled up on the beach and a fab fish seller for fresh fish for the BBQ! St. Ives to Zennor (bit harder walk but worth it for a meal at The Gurnard's Head before getting the bus back!).

These web sites are woth a visit to seach for attractions by area/ type etc.

Cornwall is amazing, have fun!

Cape Cornwall is lovely and a walk up to the lookout station is interesting. The Wayside museum at Zennor is worth a visit with lunch next door at the Old chapel backpackers cafe. Botallack mine is very good if you fancy some exercise.
