we have a residents car park where each house is allocated 2 spaces and everyone seems to think it's ok to use our spaces. One year a lady from National Statistics visited us and not knowing parked in our next door neighbours space who then left a message saying 'this is private parking, if you park here again you'll be wheel clamped' but it's ok for her sister and family etc to park in our spaces despite their 2 spaces being free. Biggest mistake was making this car park as it's caused lots of problems

I have an uncle who could never seem to get parked outside his own house. When I used to visit him he drove me crazy jumping up and looking though the window hoping to move his car nearer his front door.
Thankfully for his sanity and mine he moved.

Just put in some parking posts, job done.
I wish we could, don't think the housing association will let us as we've been nattering since we moved in when the house was newly built in 2004 for some way to mark each space despite each tenant being advised which were their spaces prior to moving in. Problem has been successive housing officers and tenants not spreading the info

as you say you can't do anything about it but it would be nice for people to have consideration for others. Where we use to live was on road parking, a few of us had drive ways installed but before that it was on road parking.
I remember when my next door neighbour moved in (a polish guy who was renting and his place didn't have a drive way but the house next to him did, and cause it was shared pathway he assumed he could use there other people's driveway!x
It's true, they can park where they like on the highway so long as they are not creating an obstruction or breaching any road traffic regulation order. No one has a legal right to park outside their own house (would be nice if we did) . It's what we know as a free country...ever heard it called a considerate country? Patience...they may move eventually.

As a matter of interest, I thought you were not allowed to park on the highway within X feet either side of a junction?
Highway code advises that you should not park within 10yds of a junction but its not law. If the authorities want to book you for obstruction on the public highway they can wherever you park, legally any vehicle parked anywhere on the public highway is causing an obstruction, I think, but in practice its a discretionary thing, obviously in narrow residential streets cars are parked on corners all the time without action being taken.
They take action round here if you park so close to a junction. Fixed penalty Tickets are issued. Hurrah
