Am I imagining it or are processed foods getting sweeter? I have just eaten some Heinz baked beans and they were so sweet they would have gone as well with custard as wholemeal toast. Even bread tastes sweeter or saltier lately than when I was young.
I have noticed that sauces seem a lot sweeter too lately. Maybe my taste buds are getting old with me.
I have noticed that processed food doesn`t taste too good any more I think it`s because I don`t eat too much of it anymore. I always find after I have eaten it that I am very thirsty (too much salt in it I think).
some manufacturers seem to be swapping sugar for artifical sweetener, I can taste this more than sugar, not sure if its actually sweeter, or its the artificial bit I can taste more
I think a lot of manufacturers are cutting back on sugar levels by replacing them with artificial sweeteners, which conspiracy theorists have a field day over.
On the topic of beans, I'd avoid Heinz and go for Branston. They've got a much richer taste, almost how I remember Heinz to be. Downside is that they don't have a handy ring pull so you need to remember a tin opener when camping :D

I like Branston beans and am convinced they're made to the same recipe as Cross & Blackwell, which don't seem to be around any more.
We switched to Branston when we noticed how thin the juice in Heinz beans was getting as well as being very anaemic looking and only 3/4 full of beans!

And Aldi beans are even better! I seldom buy any other brand now.
All timmed beans taste too sugary for my liking, but Aldi's seem to taste less so.
I agree I had my first taste of Aldi beans last night while I was making tea for my Grandkids .I have always had Heinz but lately they do seem to have changed ,plus have you noticed how there is more sauce in them
