HELPPPPPPPPPP!!!

After a weeks walking in some rather wet weather last week, my previously non-squeaking boots are very very noisy!

My boots (regatta) were soaked right through, so I left them to dry out in front of the fire, and ever since they have squeaked. Anyone any ideas how to silence them, other than throwing on the fire? They are not really that old, only two and half months..

Are they leather boot's   or fabric

Usually when shoes squeak its the metal strip in the sole called the shank thats worked loose.

If they are natural leather boots, put dubbin on them, you might need a couple of applications to soften them. Leather boots should not be dried out in front of fire. airing cupboard is better.

They are suede and fabric..... never knew they could be so irritating!! Is there anyway of repairing the metal strip if this is what the problem is??

It does seem to be the sole that the noise is coming from btw

I agree with Kimmie, sounds like the shank. If it is the shank, take them back to the shop, you havn't had them that long for it to go.

Unfortunately the only way is to remove the metal strip but that means pulling the insole layers apart until you get to it.
Thats what keeps the sole stiff in a decent pair of shoes or boots.

OH was a bespoke shoe maker for years and always used to say once the shank started squeaking just buy a set of earplugs if it irritated. It was less bother than trying to get to it.

It might just be the membrane squeaking

Never dry boots of any type near a fire stuff with newspaper is better

I found when on holiday as long as inner soles where dry and clean dry socks it does not matter if boots are a bit wet

Thanks for the replies.... The boot were soaked right through, unfortunately.... Looks like I might have caused the problem by putting near heater :(

My mum used to say that they'd squeak until you paid for them.
