Did it myself using a letter found on the web, got approx. £1400.
Last year a PPI Coy got in touch says I have money to get, told them go ahead thinking I have done it anyway, got over £2500, ok they got a cut off that but hey I didn't think I had anything to get.
Put them on to my wife she gets £2500 its a funny old world in finance.
If you have only had one or two loans or credit cards in your life then doing it yourself is easy I suppose. Until now I think I have lived my life on loans and credit cards so writing to each and every one of them might be time consuming...even if I could remember who they all were. All I have to do with a claims company is give the name of the bank/credit card and approximate date plus the address where I was living at the time and they do the rest...hopefully. After that I just sit and wait for the money to come piling in and even a fiver would be a fiver I didn't have before
We bought a full Karsten set up with ours... and squandered the rest!
The bulk of it came from Natwest, who were obligated to do the donkey work once we signed a form to give them permission to look into it. (They sent us the letter and forms, we didn't ask for them!)
Cost us nothing more than the time to provide our names, address and signatures.
Like others, I was self employed, so would not have been able to claim.
The rest came from Muckerette raiding her memory bank, and filling in the odd simple form. I don't know the details, as I left her to it.
A tad over £5k in total, from memory. Kerching!

Did it myself some years ago using a form off the internet. Can't remember how much I got, but it was a couple of hundred or so. Maybe £300. It was very easy.

bob, what they generally do is run a credit report for you, then they go fishing with the likely companies by sending out standard letters to all companies.
i cant tell you how many letters from claim companies i have seen where the customer has never even banked with the firm.
just do your homework with the claim company charges as it is scary how some of these firms calc their cut. the worst i have seen ended up in the customer getting only about 30% of the total claim!

I have already done a bit of research and it's not just what they charge but how they harass their potential customers, especially with phone calls. I have come across one small company that has treated me very well so far. After filling in an online form they emailed me in which they explained they had sent me some paperwork to fill in if I wished to proceed. I replied to the email asking some questions and got what I believe were honest and informative replies...no hassles or phone calls and it won't cost me a penny unless the company can recover some money. They will then take 25% of it inclusive of VAT.
My thoughts are that I would much rather have somebody who knows the ropes working on my behalf than trying to flounder my way through reams of paperwork to various companies I can barely recall having loans or credit cards with and can't remember exactly when or the exact details...only to be told at the end of it I am not entitled to anything.
If the claims company recovers £2000 (which I very much doubt) they take their £500 and I get £1500...which is £1500 more than I have now...and I don't even have to get off my backside.
