I have a very lazy queen who is loveable on her own terms, usually around 9pm at night she will come for a stroke or if I am not at work and in through the day she may wake up (and that is a big MAY) and want a stroke.

I am looking to get a kitten but DH says that it will cause to much upset for our older cat - and I was wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and what is the best to get a Tom to go with our queen or another queen.

How old is your 'Older Cat'?  She may feel very left out or too old to be putting up with a hyperactive kitten. 

From my experience our cat was 3 when we got our 2nd kitten, she hated him with a passion for quite some time.  She tolerates him now but as they are 17 & nearly 20 so they can't be bothered to do any other.

Our cat was 11 when we got our kitten last year, his nose was out of joint more becuase he loves his people time and fuss and didn'tlike the idea that he would have to share his two people with another cat!

A year later and they get on ok, they have had too as we sometimes leave them on there own for a weekend if visiting the in laws As our kitten has grown up it the amount of time's she pounces on him to play with him has calmed down.

I was advised that you are best with one of each.

Thank you very much for all your replies but we have decided to leave it - she was a rescue kitten/cat and had been badly treated.  Someone had kicked her they think and her pelvis had been broken so she has never been into jumping fences, she struggles to jump up on the settee and if she wants to see you while where still in bed (ususally if it is past 7am and she wants fed) she like a mountain climber trying to scale the bed.

We had another cat when we got her and they did eventually get on but they were only young cats (he died about 6 years ago) I don't think she would take to kindly to a kitten.
