Just come across a forum topic concerning a chap who wants to swap his caravan for a motorhome with a tow bar to enable him to tow his mobility scooter on a trailer. This begs the question why tow it, surely the rack manufacturers have made something that will carry a scooter, I have seen racks that carry very large motor cycles, they must weigh more than a mobility scooter. Has anyone seen such a thing?
It makes me think they are missing a golden oppertunity if not. Lets face it a large percentage of Motor home owners are retired folk, and we are not getting any younger or fitter, a scooter is a good way of getting around. I know this from personal experience while recovering from a stroke, (luckily fully functioning again after 6 months ). But during the time I needed personal transport it was carried inside the motorhome between the rear lounge seats, a real pain in the a**e if you just wanted to stop for a cuppa and sarnie, and had to be lifted out to make up the bed. A rear carrying rack would have been perfect
------------- How come having no choice is the only option?
My parents have a motorhome and tow a mobility scooter in a trailer. They used to have the scooter on a rack on the back - but it was a rack that they had made (did not buy off a shelf!).
They changed to the trailer for a couple of reasons. Both are just reaching the young age of 70, which of course requires them to apply for a new licence. Although at the moment there is no restriction on what they can tow they were both concerned that in the future this may alter as they have to reapply every three years. So this has resulted in them purchasing a smaller motorhome (max weight 3.5 tonnes) which of course has a smaller payload. Seeing as the scooter has a weight of 100kg, that reduced the payload even more. So they made sure the motorhome could tow and bought a trailer which means they can tow unbraked up to 750kg. For them the trailer was therefore a perfect solution.
Thanks for that shawxclan, your point on payload versus towing is valid. However my scooter is not one of the larger heavier roadgoing type, rather its a small lightweight pavement model, around 30-40 kg. The reply I got from Rob has a link to a site that is certainly of interest to me, and may also be to your parents. Having just spent a month in your corner of the world, on a couple of occasions I wish I had taken "Harriet the chariot" with us, is everywhere in cornwall up a hill?

Well Bridgelayer, if you can afford that on your pension you must have been an MP. But will it fit on a standard club pitch? You may need hardstanding this summer.
