These words might help a little, they meant a lot to me when we lost our Harvey. Run free at the Bridge, Max.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I Loved You Best
So this is where we part, my friend,
and you’ll run on, around the bend.
Gone from sight, but not from mind,
new pleasures there you’ll surely find.
I will go on, I’ll find the strength,
life measures quality, not length.
One long embrace before you leave,
share one last look, before I grieve.
There are others, that much is true,
but they be they, and they aren’t you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
Will remember well all you’ve taught.
Your place I’ll hold, you will be missed,
the fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
take this with you…I loved you best.
Oh thank you sooo much everyone....we're really overwhelmed.
He coped so well with all his ills, his little tale wagging even when he started to have one of his 'episodes' but we knew the end had come when he even refused his special treats (where we hid his tablets) like sausages and pate!
He was a real character and was well known round here because he'd carry his little blue frisby everywhere! The kids all loved him. He was so out of it on his last night, not eating or drinking we knew the time had come.
I'm sat here on my own today and can't begin to tell you how I miss his little head on my lap while I finish my breakfast! But I know he's at peace and your messsages have really helped...thank you again.
We hope to pick up his ashes tomorrow (we left him his frisby too) and we're going to scatter them over his favourite park!
Jules
Sorry to hear this.  7 is no age.
We've all gone through it, and I think there's no pain like it (losing a beloved pet) as they give so much uncondtionally.
It will get easier, I promise.  You won't ever forget but the pain does ease.
I know it's difficult but the animal's feelings must come first. We must not let them suffer. We do the best for our pets. BUT however we allow fellow human beings suffer when their quality of life with terminal illness but be suspect.
Should we apply the same rules to our fellow humans as we do to our pets.
It's the hardest decision you ever have to make, but you'll know when the time is right.
Our Sam, a beautiful cross collie, started to lose the use of his legs when he was about 13 but he was still so mentally alert and well in every other way that we helped him all we could, we even had some wheels professionally made for him (see my gallery pics) and this gave him a couple more years where he could still go for walks and play in the garden. He was still eating well and was quite happy just being in our company, however he did take a turn for the worse eventually and was just really unsettled and upset, we knew then that the time had come. When  he was put to sleep the vet said that he still had a really strong heart. Two years prior to this our other cross collie Pepper developed a heart problem she just collapsed on a couple of occasions and just came round really slowly, she was on some drugs for a while, but they made her really sleepy and miserable. The last time she collapsed she just didn't come round, she looked as if she had just laid down and gone to sleep bless her. So however they go it tears your heart out, I have my beautiful Bailey now, but Pepper and Sam are still very much in my heart, their ashes sit in the living room where they liked to be and on the upstairs bedroom windowsill sits George's ashes, my first cat. As sad as it is to lose them, I am so glad they were all a part of our lives.
