If it's not green when you defrost it, have at it.
During my time at university they were selling "out of date crisps" in the student union bar, a young fellow student anounced her dissapointment as she had never had the chance to try "date" crisps.
------------- How come having no choice is the only option?
As long as it's packaged well & not covered in freezer burn, I wouldn't throw it out without thawing it & checking it first. It's frozen so I don't see how it would change after a certain date.
Years ago when very few of us had fridges or freezers and food was not marked with a "sell by" or "use by" date we kept food until it either smelt bad or it walked away itself.
Due to modern hygiene laws people are now paranoid and shops are throwing out canned and pickled food that will actually keep for years.
I love a good freezer clear out - if it is steak and doesn't look great when thawed,( freezer burn) I make a casserole or stew with it - certainly wouldn't bin it!!
I'm still looking for a "Like" button under Bernie's post until I remembered to verbally agree with him. I probably reported him to the moderators a few times in the process, too...
Make a "Freezer Depth" surprise casserole with it. Lots of onions and garlic to mask the deteriorating meat that has gone all tender because of the breaking up fibres...
