Apparently the Kobo can accept ebooks that are in EPUB, PDF and MOBI formats. There are some free ebook sites, such as Project Gutenberg, but generally speaking, these are classics/copyright expired books. Such as the authors you mention (and most relatively new books) can only be got (legally) by buying; although I believe ( ) many hundreds can be found on various 'torrent' sites. Downloading these however are contravening copyright laws etc.

Try your library. In Wales you can download ebooks to ereaders (but not Kindle yet)and borrow them for a period of three weeks.

I'll second that, alot are doing ebooks now, you get the book for 3 weeks, and if you dont renew, it automatically disappears from your reader

There seems to be a standard catalogue of 'free' ebooks and these tend to be older classics where the copyright has long since expired. The books you'll find on Project Gutenburg will be pretty much the same as the free books on Kobo's site etc.

Many library services are now providing an ebook service. You can usually 'borrow' an ebook for up to 3 weeks. The range of available books can vary. I am member of both Somerset and Wiltshire libraries. The Somerset selection is better than Wiltshire's as Somerset is part of the southwest libraries ebook service.

Don't forget you can download books from Amazon's Kindle site and with Calibre software installed you can convert books into a format the Kobo will read, even Digital Rights Management (DRM) protected Kindle books. Just need to install a particular plug-in to Calibre where you can 'strip out' the DRM protection. However only do this for personal use.

I have the Kobo Touch and love it. I'm well and truly converted to eReaders. Great for taking camping.

Also, the Kindle store has a top 100 free ebooks list which is updated regularly - my wife gets the majority of her books from here, all for free.

I will have to have a look at these too.

I have been handed a Kobo to charge, register and download Fifty Shades for a work colleague.  I had never seen one till today.  I have a Kindle and more free books than I know what to do with so this is a challenge.

Will look at the library bit for her too.

Thank you.

Google "fre e-books" and you will get loads, also e-bayas previous poster mentioned!

We got a couple of DVDs off e-bay with thousands of books on for reasonably low price.

We both have Sonys and have SD cards full of books now!

So useful on holidays along with the i-pod for music!

I've always thought it strange that people think its ok to download books (not talking about the real free books here) but are horrified at people downloading films and music. Where's the difference? It's still taking money from the original artists.
