Also if you've got a bacterial infection that actually warrants antibiotics then you wouldn't wait a week to take them. You either need them or you don't.
By waiting a week your own immune system should have fought off any underlying infection which meant you didn't really need antibiotics in the first place.
It is from years of overprescribing antibiotics that has led to strains of superbugs such as mrsa that are becoming more and more resistant so unless you feel you need to start them right now I wouldn't bother

A major side effect of antibiotics is thrush. Were you on penicillin for your throat? If so did you have tonsillitis? So why did your gp feel the need to prescribe a further course of antibiotics for a completely different condition because you complained of a bad taste in your mouth?
Unfortunately I work with a gp who tends to just issue repeat courses of antibiotics just to get the patient out of the room and make it look like he's done something. So I hope yours hasn't done the same.
Doxycycline is excellent for sinusitis but make sure you've got it before taking them is all I would advise
The initial reason I went to the doctors was the bad taste in my throat and I was prescribed arythromycin - I'm allergic to pennicillin, I went back to the doctors because the taste hasn't cleared up. I didn't have tonsilitis as I had no pain. No my tongue isn't coated and I have no other symptoms, although lastnight I had an awful headached and had problems sleeping which would go along with the sinus theory. The doctor thinks that the problem could be my sinuses as there are no other symptoms, I happy with his diagnosis, I'd just rather not put myself at any further risk in the sun as I am also quite fair. Thinking of getting some over the counter sinus tablets for the time being and will take antibiotics when I come back from hols if no better, when I can spend most of the time indoors.
I think I could count on one hand the number of times I've had antibiotics in recent years so I'm not particularly concerned that I'm becoming immume to them! In fact it takes a lot to actually get me to the doctors! In all honesty, the bad taste was a concern as with no pain I had no idea what was causing it, as the antibiotics didn't clear it up I thought it best to go back to the doctors, I would have thought most people would have done the same.
I have sinus problems. The hospital recommended a solution called neil med, you mix it with water in a bottle which is in the kit, it has a knozzle on it & you have to squeeze it and breath it right through to the other nostril and then you do it on other side, it is difficult to explain it but once you have done it a couple of times it is easy. I know it sounds horrible but it is really good & you feel so much better for it. You can get it from chemist. It may be worth a try. Have a nice holiday.

even when you see the mims (book of all drugs) on their desk and your medical notes on the pc in front of them the doctors just seem to prescribe stuff nilly willy.
Thank god for pharmacist twice ive been prescribed drugs that are bad for asthmatics only to be asked if i have asthma answer yes, back into the doctors and waited over a hour to get re sorted. its just like a convey belt for the GP
