In recent years we have used ALPS via an independent insurance broker. I have called them out and they were fine.

RAC always had a good reputation and unlike the AA you don't get relayed around the country! One truck, one trip, much better.

Was involved in the recovery industry in the nineties and the RAC were always well respected.

Forget Green Flag, they left us stranded in a lane in Cornwall.

I wouldn't have them if they were free!

Camping? You want me to go camping? Listen...My idea of "roughing it" is a night at a Premier Inn with no cable tv in it!

Paying to sleep outside .....Surely, that is an insult to homeless people?

Green Flag also dumped me in a garage 3 miles from my home.  I had to walk  the 3 miles on roads without paths to get home.

Hubby was furious.

He rang Green Flag to find out why they would leave a lone female stranded at a garage and their response was "we only do one "drop off" so we could either have dropped the broken down vehicle & your wife at home"  (and then have a car that doesn't work on our driveway)  or "drop the vehicle off at the garage"  ......which is exactly what they did leaving me to walk!

With anything I would advise to check the small print.  Especially if towing and especially if you have pets as some breakdown recoveries won't allow pets.

RAC every time! Last time we called them out the water pump packed up and the car (Volvo estate) was full of camping equipment! We were on our way to a campsite in Pembrokeshire. The guy towed us to the campsite, helped to unload the car, before towing us to a local garage. He even took us to a local supermarket to pick up a few bits and pieces on the way back to the campsite!
