in our garden we have a small fish pond, app' 4' x 4' x 2' , there's a water lily and 2 koi carp in there as well as a small fountain/ filter.

my problem is that over the last few days i have noticed a lot of white, frothy, foam appearing on the surface, which i have been removing by scooping it off the surface with a small fishing net.

it seems to get worse the warmer the weather is, i was wondering if there are any fish / pond keepers on ukcs that may have an idea of what is causing the problem and how to cure it, my initial thought was that there must be some kind of aeration problem causing the fish to gasp in warmer weather ,thus causing the foaming. as warm water holds less oxygen than cold but the pond pump is running continuosly and the water surface is constantly moving.

any ideas anyone ?

I think there might be 2 problems.
One is that Koi need a much bigger pond than you have (they can get to a metre long, if not more) and the foam may well be some kind of protein.
There is a great fishkeeping forum on this site here:
www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk
and they have a pond section. Maybe post there and ask if you have no luck here.
A quick glance shows someone with a similar problem and some advice:

Hope that helps.

I had the same with my pond and it was an airflow problem. Not so much warm weather, it is to do with air pressure and it tends to show worse just before or after a thunder storm.

Remedy:- Squirt the garden hose into pond at full blast whilst squeezing the tip, thus generating a lot of bubbling water in the pond. It will stir all the muck from the bottom but will soon settle again.

You can buy airation plants (check on pond size as some will become a weed and you will be forever dragging it out).

A fountain or waterfall will also keep turning the water over adding air
