I know it's not camping but I need some advice urgently.

We have booked a farmhouse in the Dordogne via holidaylettings.co.uk.  sent nearly £800 deposit (cheque not yet cashed).

Advert has been removed. Have left a message for owner on a french answerphone.  No tel no on site for holiday lettings to find out why.

Should I stop the cheque.  All the other internet adverts for this house have dissappeared when I google it!!!

Any advice greatly appreciated.

holidaylettings terms and conditions make it clear that they are not the representative of any advertiser, nor do they have responsibility for the quality, sufficiency, or, I suppose, the actual existence of any advertiser. Thus it suggests that your contract is with the holiday location and if that is the case then your contract may very well be subject to French law rather than UK law.

If in doubt, where my money is concerned, I would stop the cheque and cancel the booking. However, if you do so then you may have a liability under French Law. You need to check the Holiday letting terms and conditions. If you are happy to be the subject of any penalty for cancellation e.g. lost deposit, then so be it.

Maybe the adverts been taken down as the owner of the farmhouse no longer wants to take bookings for it..I had a look on their website and your right there is no number or contact address etc that|I could see..is there a number on your conformation email ? If not I would cancell my cheque as Griff says you can always re issue one if you find out all is ok with your booking..
