I think we will try recycling old gifts this year. We'll buy the kids stuff but try to keep costs down. Besides, my wife has the added costs of somebody's 40'th in October-oh yeah, I forgot-ITS MINE!!
But I always say christmas starts after rememberance sunday(unless theres real bargains to be had)

Austerity Christmas for many this year I reckon. Shops will be suffering a downturn in trade. It doesn't take long to buy the very little we shall need so no point started until most of the windows would be open on the advent calender (if we had bought one)

It's much to early to mention the C word. Let's get holidays etc over before we even dare to think about it!!!
Totally agree it should be illegal to mention hat word before November!!!

The BBC weather man said a swear word the other day (autumnal) !!
A swear word in my book!! In August !!
Let alone Xmas and winter... Thats off the scale !!
Was rather surprised to see Christmas decorations/lights in COSTCO (Warehouse superstore) Its only August. Normally dont start until after the October school holidays. But did buy a huge (will last several years lol) roll of wrapping paper.
I've come to dread it and to wish we could just celebrate it every five years instead of so often. Trouble for me is to reduce costs I've had to adopt the tradition of making cards and gifts for the great many people in my life who won't let it be ignored or treated quietly, so I have to start now or I'll never get everything made....groan....Peace and goodwill to all????? Sorry, I lost that some time ago!
As I only have the kids to buy for, and sadly I think that they are too old for Santa to leave them anything other than a token gift, unless I saw a mega bargain for them, I won't be starting until December. I save for High Street Vouchers to help with the cost.
I do understand why people start buying bits early - but saying that I hate to see Christmas decorations/cards in the shops around September.
However on a different note, I am going to start making some Christmas Cards for charity soon, that way I will have a reasonable amount to donate come the time of Christmas Fairs etc.
I have to admit that i saw some books in WH Smith the other day at a good price that would make ideal Xmas and birthday presents so have started. Seemed daft not to buy them and then wonder what to get them come Xmas and birthday lol
