I am considering studying for a degree with the Open University. While I have no doubt the OU would take me on as a student what I would like to know, if anyone could enlighten me is, realistically what are my chances of getting a tuition fee loan my concern is mainly my age (57). Thanks in anticipation.

Hi tweety

I've been studying with OU since 2004, am 48, and have no realistic chance of paying back a student loan.

The rules seem to be that there are no age limits, and you don't need to expect to be able to pay it back. There are some rules - for example you will need to pass a module a year - but being part-time you will have 6 years to do it in instead of the 3 for full-time students.

Hope this helps.

It certainly does help. I find your experience very encouraging, thanks.

Hi tweety,
good luck with your studies Be aware though that the student loan website must have to be one of the most user unfriendly ones I have ever had the misfortune to have to use!

Yup, have to agree there! It's probably better to ring up for info, especially as this is the first time loans have been available for part-timers.
