So the kids aren't even back at school yet (back to school tomorrow) but local Poundland has it's Halloween stock on display.... and local Tesco has just put out tins of Ch****mas shortbread !
It must have really taken a lot of the excitement out of it of the kids - all of a sudden mid October the Halloween stuff would appear - not that there was as much back when I was a kid, and certainly not some of the really nasty looking stuff that there is today - but that's a different rant.
December was exciting because all of a sudden the Christmas stuff would appear. Decorations did not appear until then.
I can understand that the wholesalers such as Costco need to have the stuff on display earlier, and I do admit that yesterday I bought the stuff to make my Christmas Cards. I was really fed up, as things had gone wrong all morning, so went and cheered myself up. Stuff like this does need to be bought earlier to allow people time to make their cards, especially those who make them to sell/for charity stalls etc. Saying that I never did Alice's cards for her classmates with her until the first week in December at the earliest. (Although I did get eh stuff in earlier for them.)
Time for me to hibernate. Hate the hype and commercial frenzy that accompanies our 'festivals'. Makes me very grumpy! But them lots of things make me grumpy... I'm convinced I need to live the life of a semi-hermit somewhere quiet (near a decent grocery store, post office, petrol station and pub of course!)
I know.....I went to Tesco yesterday to get some packed lunch bits as my children were going back to school today. As I finished looking at the stationary/back to school aisle and turned the corner I almost fainted....there was the tins of Christmas chocolates and all the goodies we love to eat! I couldn't believe it!
Also check the weight of the tins of chocolates. Stores are selling them at £5 but the weight of the contents has decreased (although the actual 'tin' is the same size) which is a blatant price increase.
