not sure where to put this, towcars, motorhomes, or here, so stuck it here.
Anyone got any tips on where to find "oversized" parking, recently bought myself a Defender 110, and on a jaunt to blackpool, found it doesnt fit in their car parks, them being restricted to 6'3", the landy being 6"5.
We did find one, small car park with no restriction, but had to wait for a space.
Now a little concerned on going out elswhere, Leeds Centre for instance.

I have the same problem and although the following method is a bit longwinded 9 times out of 10 I can usually find a carpark with enough headroom.
Go to the Transport Direct Car Park Finder website
Type in the town or address you are looking in/near and a list of car parks will be displayed together with a map if you ask for it. Click on each car park in turn and basic details will be displayed (including whether it is surface or multistory) and including a web link to the provider. If its NCP they will usually tell you on their website what the headroom is, if its a council run car park its potluck whether you will find the info as each council lays out their websites differently.
As a last resort I use Google Streetview to see if I can see the Headroom sign at the entrance to the car park.

Vast majority of car parks in the South West don't have entry barriers/height barriers etc but I can't say about elsewhere in the UK.
Park and rides perhaps? Or smaller towns park on local streets and have a little stroll in?

We're usually ok but we have been caught out a couple of times when barrier said 2m but aren't and once we only just scraped through. We have also been caught out by an exit barrier (assume its to stop vans slipping in back way) and I had to go off and find someone to raise it!
If we are going away and plan to visit somewhere I tend to check the barrier heights as couldn't park somewhere once and we had been looking forward to the visit.

Yeah, we usually park further out, we drive up to Bispham and get the tram down, its actually cheaper anyway.
on this occasion, we were going to the Family Bar night in the tower, so wanted the motor closer for when we left late on with the kids, rather than risk a stupidly busy evening tram for 15 mins with 3 tired kids...
At least now I know, I will check heights before we go, series ones must have been shorter, dont remember me dad having this problem :)

There is a car park which has been designated for motorhomes as well as other large vehicles not far from the tower near the other car parks. I'll try to find it on Google Earth.
Found it!!! It's on Richardson Street close to the front and close to the tower. Ideal for what you want.Type in Blackpool Tower on Google earth, move directly vertical a little down the screen , still close to the prom and you wil see a lot of car parks close together, zoom in and you will see the car park on Richardson Street. Gettimg to it is another matter all together but it can be done.

110 defender roof rack kayaks bikes etc etc = stihl saw . It really really winds me up . The only reason for these barriers is Travellers .
We had the same issue of sorts with access to cycle routes paths barriers to stop motorcycles also stop tandems child trailers tricycles and loaded up touring bicycles . Sustrans has removed all barriers over the last few years .
Car parks that have issues should be gated at night with clearly signed closing time . Councils make a big deal of access for all but some restrict access at car parks ?

You have our sympathies. Here in Kent, we have argued for some time to allow 'overheight' vehicles to use the local authority waste recycling sites. We have, for perhaps two years, been able to access the sites on a Wednesday and Saturday only.
Now, the County Council want to limit access to vehicles under 2.1m in height. If you have a domestic ie non-commercial vehicle over 2.1m in height, you may still be able to access the sites, on a maximum of 12 occasions per year .......... as long as it is the sole vehicle in the household!
If there is another vehicle registered at the address, you will not be able to obtain the necessary vouchers to use the sites.
Grrrrhhhhh!!!!!

I suppose the argument is that if you have one of these large vehicles you will be able to pack far more rubbish into it than me with my golf hatchback. Looked at that way the limit on visits to the dump seems vaguely reasonable.
My sister has a 1960 vintage Land Rover and suffered the third degree at her local tip in Dorset. She's old and crotchety like me so hardly looks like she's doing it as a business.

I agree with you, insofar as you can pack more rubbish in.............. but you only create so much rubbish in the first place! Instead of one trip in the Landie every 3 months, Mrs 'D' would need to make at least 6 trips to deposit the same refuge/garden waste/card etc etc.
carbon footprint?
It's a difficult one I grant. Just a little miffed re: the 'sole vehicle' caveat.
