Hi Guys,
Dose anyone here understand the insurance system when hiring a car in the United States of America?
Having booked a car with fully comp insurance in the past with Dollar, I was then informed that the insurance did not cover glass windows, tyres, under carriage damage or breakdowns!!
I would have thought that especially the breakdown should have been standard, as if the car breaks down, then it is not fit for the purpose that it was rented for.
Is there an easy way to ensure that you are adequately covered without paying massive premiums?

Another vote for Virgin, we always use virgin for the flights and the car hire and ins is the best.

Hi Mark52 & Cindy007,
I actually booked via Virgin last year. I booked a flight and a hire car (not a fly drive, don't know what the difference was) When I arrived in America I was directed to the Alamo desk, where the guy informed me that the insurance did not cover glass windows, tyres, under carriage damage or breakdowns!! and did I wish to pay more!
Upon my return I emailed Virgin to complain as they had told me on booking that I was fully covered, Virgin didn't even reply. I find this all a minefield,

We used these last time we went (it was back in 2008 though), booked their Gold package with no problems.
The only downside was we got a Sebring convertable rather than the Mustang I was hoping for.

Many Thanks ST1100,
That is a great link and hopefully it is what it says. I have already gone on line
and booked, reasonable rates as well.
Thanks again
