Does anybody know how Royal Mail decide where a gold postbox goes in honour of our olympic athletes?
I thought it went in the town where the athlete lives but Ive just been reading about the skyride in Bolton and it seems Jason Kenny's is outside the post office in Bolton, but Im sure he comes from Farnworth.
Another one is the Brownlee brothers who won/3rd in triathlon. Their's apparantly is in Horsforth (Leeds), but they live in Bramhope (Leeds). I was told it has something to do with where they were living when they were born. Seems like they just paint a box anywhere.
Still, I know where my local one is so its time for a photo-if this kidney stone keeps me upright for long enough.

I would understand if it was outside of the post office in that athletes town but Farnworth has its own post office as well as Bolton and theres a few miles between them.

royal mail went by where the GB team page stated the person was born. For example Joanne roswell born in St Heliers Carshalton. However the box painted in Carshalton in her honour was put back to red and another gold one was painted in Cheam where she was was raised. However David Weir appears to have two??? One in Wallington high street plus one on the Estate in Roundshaw!!!

Farnworth is in Bolton. Farnworth does have a post office but it is a sub, farnworth has the Bolton post code. So this is why it is outside of the bolton main post office, Be a nice thought though to paint the post box in Farnworth as well.
