My OH thinks that everyone should be made to get a bike licence before they're allowed to drive a car. He reckons they would get into the idea of looking properly before they pull out, change lanes etc.
I'm very bike aware, having grown up around them (I rode pillion on my dad's bike before I started school - that would have the social workers round these days). When I have a bike behind me, even if it's a long way back, I always make damn sure I know where it is before I maneouvre.
I'm also a big fan of loud exhausts on bikes. It's the best way of letting drivers know they're there imo.
