There are too many impatient, unobservent and distracted drivers around. This is one reason I wont get another bike to comute on. I want another bike, but only if I can use it as a toy

My OH thinks that everyone should be made to get a bike licence before they're allowed to drive a car. He reckons they would get into the idea of looking properly before they pull out, change lanes etc.

I'm very bike aware, having grown up around them (I rode pillion on my dad's bike before I started school - that would have the social workers round these days). When I have a bike behind me, even if it's a long way back, I always make damn sure I know where it is before I maneouvre.

I'm also a big fan of loud exhausts on bikes. It's the best way of letting drivers know they're there imo.

How true! It's amazing how many drivers on the motorway pay so little attention to their rear view mirrors. They trundle along in the second overtaking lane (there is no such thing as a 'fast lane') seemingly oblivious to the stonking great police car/ambulance/fire appliance behind them on blues & twos that they're holding up from administering life saving treatment to some poor bugger.
