I heard on the news that he had appeared in court today and was in tears as the charges were read out.

I only hope that it is Mark Bridger who is responsible for April's disappearance.

The police, the press and the public have already tried and convicted him in advance of any legal proceedings.

Remember that poor school master who was pilliored by all for the murder of that girl in Bristol, just because he lived near her. He at least got a financial payment for his destroyed life.

Update: I just realised that Kimmie had said exactly the same thing on here...but no harm in 2 of us saying this

As bizzarre as this may sound, i dont think they have looked right. There were aerial shots on the news of all these volunteers stretched out 'searching' across ground. But, half the time there were maybe 2 or 3 together chatting, leaving wide spaces maybe 20 yards apart unchecked. There could have been a shoe/bangle/button anything laying there and they'd have walked straight past it.

The kid is either washed out to sea, or it'll be a case like the kid in the attic where they didnt check right on day one.

Thats probably why they have asked all to leave volunteering now and leave it to the experts, a few kayaking pals are down their assisting with water work.
but the police have bought more experts in now.

Their not being disrespectful they just want to contain any evidence.

I also havent been able to find on the news stories did he plead guilty or not ?

That said it does seem strange they charged him so quick but if he is innocent then the police will have a lot to answer for and of course compensation to pay out

They didn't charge him quickly though. They had to go back to court at least once, if not twice, to get and extension to the length of time he was held. In the end, I think they had to charge him or let him go. They also consulted the CPS before charging, which they don't bother with if they think they have a really strong case.

Someone remanded in custody and subsequently acquitted doesn't get compensation, either. You only get compensation if you're convicted and then freed on appeal, or if you were held unlawfully. If there's enough evidence for the police to believe that someone has committed a crime, that's not unlawful.

Of course, he might have been crying because he's in court for something he didn't do. He's not guilty till the jury gives their verdict, and assumptions all over the internet that he is won't help a fair trial.

Being an old fart, I can remember far too many miscarriages of justice, and in each and every one of those a jury and often the pbulic were convinced of the defendant's guilt. Not only does a miscarriage mean that an innocent person's life is ruined, it also means the true perpetrator gets away with it and is at liberty to offend again.

at Fran -  how very well said,  17  well put very knowledgable posts.

Likewise SG Thomas.   It's heartening to see posts like those from yourself & Jelboy & Kimmie ...

I am so utterly fed up of all the misinformed nonsense all over the net & in the papers that's put forward as `fact',  & the dangerous assumptions that are plastered all over the net.

It won't help this little girl or her family one bit.,  in fact the reverse is more likely.

seems like some people don't need a trial. they've already decided he is guilty.

What if he didn't do it, how terrible will that be, the police obviously know something we don't, but we are not judge and jury, we should leave it up to the justice system, however flawed it may be sometimes.
Unless there is compelling evidence, then I pass no judgement.
I just want the poor family of April to have some closure however it ends.
