"I think the thread has been modified and some of the posts have been removed for some reason, which I really can't see why ???"

It seems both posts I have made to this thread have been removed. If people do not like other peoples responses, which in my case were not even offensive, then why have forums? Forums are for people to have a discussion on a subject and that will undoubtedly allow for comments against as well as for the said debate.

So if comments are going to be removed then perhaps we should not respond any more.

My responses have not been made to offend the OP, and if offence has been taken then I appologise.

Air is made up of lots of different gases all of which will have different freezing points.



Now you have your answer as to why unboiled water takes longer to freeze as a lot of the air has been removed from the boiled water. Think about icebergs and why they float.

This is known as the Mpemba effect. Search on this and you will get lots of explanations about the effect, but there is no known proof of how the effect actually works.

The fact that we can see the effect but do not know the answer just goes to show how many things "in heaven and earth" still defy our understanding.

The old adage "a watched pot never boils" may indeed be supported by the theories of particle physics, it is mathematically possible that the observation of a process may change it's outcome.......

In my view all research is valid if it results in a greater understanding of our world.

icebergs float because they are less dense than the water    water is densest at 4 degrees C  so below that it is less dense so the colder water rises  0 is less dense that 1 so ice forms on the top first   therefore ice floats       bingo

Something to do with the crystalline structure of the ice molecules taking up more space I believe.
