I have 2 springers who get 2 hours a day off the lead, near no livestock and out in the countrside both( one 12 months and 1 twelve years) come to the whistle and I would never take them abroad with us,they need the space a campsite cant give.

We visited 3 sites in three weeks this September and all had dogs wandering about,on the last site I took the dog back to the owner who was annoyed that I had taken him back as the site wasnt busy, yes but it had knocked over our breafast table and scoffed the best bits !

So if Alfies owner is reading keep him on a lead. Its not dogs that are bad, its their owners.

In our local park there is a sign saying 'dogs must be kept on a lead'. However, the local Yoof here have a lot of staffies (the latest dog fashion trend) and it appears that is is uncool to have them on a lead. It's a disturbing trend among young dog owners who don't even know how to train them. Or train them to be aggressive, as is the case with some of the lads around here. It's the 'I'm hard because I have a hard dog' attitude.

No I wouldn't let my dog off near any sort of cliff, all sense leaves her head the minute she scents a rabbit! If a place is overrrun with rabbits and small creatures (like in the forest walks at Culzean castle, for eg.) I put her on a harness as well, so that's a neck collar and a harness, both with leads attached. She is precious, and I don't want to lose her. She would be miles away in minutes if she sighted a rabbit.
