Govenors should certainly be aware that parents attempting to contact the school don't get their letters answered. As well as your particular concerns re-bullying, and how it is being ignored.

I thought you were going to home school him. I know I am very glad we decided to withdraw our Grandson from school in May he is so much happier, the only kids he has to put up with now are his friends. He hasn't had a melt down since we withdrew him and he is now willing to be taught things, which he wasn't before.

I hope it works out for your lad, he shouldn't be subjected to such tormenting. Even if he does have a melt down and hits the kid who is bullying him he could come off worse. If the other kids friends decide to join in any fight.

As previously mentioned by other posts.  Your son is being bullied.   He will be classed as an vulnerable young person, therefore has some legal protection.

He is being bullied pyscologically by the other boy in PE while running, through having his personal space invaded,

Physically being bullied by being leaned on causing actual physical pain, potentially causing bruising through being bumped into continually because of low muscle tone.

The Head is failing in his Duty of Care and not providing pastural attention. Therefore failing in his legal obligation of looking after vulnerable children in his care.

I am sure that writing a letter in this format, sent to all the appropriate persons, Head, Governors, Lea. and to his designated mentor.  I am sure you will have some action.

I hope this will contribute as well, along with all the other advice. And of course not forgetting OFSTEAD, I am sure they will be interested in the standard of care given to children.

We home educated our youngest for a few weeks and are now home educating our eldest. Now our middle one (the one we are talking about) has also been asking to be home taught, and we are seriously contemplating it. He has done reasonably well academically since starting there but this year all his one to one help has disappeared and his mentor no longer exists. Plus in maths he is being held in a lower set because they said the higher set doesn't have enough helpers.

We have no idea if he would take GCSEs and if he did what he would achieve, He is currently Level 4 in English and Maths and lower on the other subjects. He doesn't do RE or Languages (Too confusing) and struggles with Humanities and Science as they are not really split into levels so the work is beyond him.

If taught at home we would concentrate on life skills, such as money, menu planning, cooking etc. I could cover the other subjects but at his level. He may not get grades at the end but we feel he would be better prepared for life.

Surfspud, what is a de reg letter? I presume you mean de-registration in order to home school. If he refused this, then I suggest you must write formally to the Chair of Governors and to the County Council. I used to do Home Schooling too from the LA end, and the head has no right not to accept it. Another aspect of this is that it appears that CC is failing in their duty to educate your son. It may well be worth seeking legal advice on this as the CC are almost certainly in the wrong; at the end of the day, the CC must then be aware that you could make a compensation claim from them.

If you are home schooling then someone should have contacted you from the LA by now.

Another possibility is to demand that the CC finds him another school and pays transport as this school is clearly failing his needs. I have seen many autistic children given the right environment blossom and develop well in a normal comp, and cope with getting a good number of GCSEs. (You can get extra exam time if the school applies, and they can be sat in a small room on their own or with one or two others. They can also have support during the exam, together with extra breaks as they require.)

Thanks. Yes, I did mean a de registration letter. When it was refused they went on to claim the LEA had refused it stating it was not specific enough although they did not know what it wasn't specific about. In the end they said it was because I had not mentioned Home Educating. Although I knew this was not a requirement and having copied the letter from Education Otherwise (an identical one is on a Government website too) I was aware the letter was acceptable and it does state we would be responsible for his education.

Anyway, I went along with their game and wrote an identical letter but adding in we would be home schooling. I told them that if they refused the second letter I would take action as they were breaking the law. Both letters asked for them to confirm de-registration. We have heard nothing!

We de-registered our youngest from his Junior School (same letter) at the end of April this year. We did not get a letter from the LEA regarding an appointment until this month
(Not that it mattered by then as he started his secondary school last month ) so they probably won't contact us for a while if our eldest has been removed.

As for exams our middle son did have a scribe and reader for help. Not sure on extra time? But whether this will have been ditched also I am not sure.

I am going to start calling them DS1, DS2 and DS3 as I think I am confusing people with so many sons!

In my opinion life skills are more important to most children than all the classes they now insist they take. I hated Domestic Science and Needlework which I was forced to take , but I don't know how I would have managed through life without those classes. All the other classes I took haven't been much use to me.

We sent our letter in May and heard from the "Academie" (LA) this morning that they have received the letter. I sent them another one yesterday on the advice from GS Mental Health worker. You have to do it every year here and I had thought the one in May would suffice for this year.

I rather think life would have been easier before compulsory schooling was brought in. We could have kept our special needs kids close and taught them what they needed to know and were capable of learning. I believe many famous people were special needs and their parents taught them and they blossomed.

I totally agree. We have no idea at the moment whether our son will ever do 'normal' things like get a job, leave home, get married etc, but to us, the ability to cook basic meals, sort finances and have some idea how to get through daily life would be far more beneficial to him than knowing what substances the Earth is made up of and how you can work out what X = when Y + 2/3x = (7-c)!!!

If he can work out he will have 14p change from £3 after buying a loaf of bread, pot of butter and tin of beans I'll be happy and he will have a full belly.

By the way, please don't attempt to work out the algebra above, unless you want to go totally insane.

As algebra was one of those things that I could never see the logic of there is no danger of me even looking at it

You never know your son could turn out to be a genius in a field that they don't teach at school. My GS is musical and a great BMX racer. He may never really learn to read music but he sure can play. We are focusing on what he can do well. I can't see the point in making him do stuff he can't do at all.

Good luck, I expect it will all turn out OK in the end.
