i noticed recently on my washing machine a light on the program control dial was out, and i couldnt remember when it was supposed to be on or off, but today i switched on the machine and the light never came on once when before it would have.
i called the service centre and was told the call out fee was 111.00 plus parts!
anyways, i thought i had an extended warranty with the machine as part of a promotion that was running when i bought it.
they asked me for the serial number of the machine and i asked where id find that and she said its both on the back of the machine and also on the door frame!
well the machine is too heavy for me to pull out from under the worktop - weighs a ton and it was also doing a washing at the time. i told the lady that and she said it was possible to interrupt the program, open the door, read off the serial number, close the door and let it carry on - and she went through the process with me and it was all very easy ( i never knew u cud open the door in the wash cycle once it was started! ).
then she told me that i had bought the machine back in 2003 ( really that long ago?!? - where has the time gone??? ) and yes she could see it was still under a complete full guarantee - for 10 years!!!. i couldnt believe it. every thing electrical/mechanical is fully covered, so the repair man is coming next week! yippee!.
when she told me i had bought it in 2003 my heart sank, but when she told me the guarantee is still valid till next year i was over the moon! wow! im doing cartwheels around the house today! well maybe not quite, but i would if i could
and the sun is shining! what a nice day!

Apart from the success of the guarantee.....which is good news, what about the light defect? Is it just a light that doesn't work or is the machine broken? I may have missed the gist of your original post
Just curious - I'm an electronic engineer you see?
hi andymp - electronic engineer - oh good - can i have your number for anything/everything else thats going to go wrong so i can have you come round and fix them for me? hehe -)
it appears to be just a light that doesnt work because ill be honest - i didnt actually notice it for a while and then after a few weeks, 1 day i thought, theres usually a light comes on when you 1st switch on the machine but once you have chosen your program and press the start washing button, that light goes out.
yesterday being a day off and no-1 around hassling me i had a relaxing stress-free morning and so i had the time to think about it and i got the intructions booklet out and it says in the book, that after selecting your program + options, press start and the light will go out.
i normally open the door, throw in the washing and the liquid ball, shut door, choose 1 of 3 settings ( why do washing machines have 20+ programs lol ) and hit start and go about my daily things and i never even notice things like lights. and the machine has been washing fine without the light, so its probably just a bulb thats gone out.
the gist of the original post was discovering that the machine is still under guarantee and its 9 years old!!!. and i didnt even know about it till i called the service centre and they told me it was covered - which was a lovely surprise!.
so its nice to have it repaired whilst its still under guarantee before i have to pay for it!.
