Basically sold an item as payment on collection, made contact with winning bidder, only to be told that his 'friend' had used his account by mistake, and is away on holiday. I'm thinking thus maybe made up.and he can't afford the purchase.
Now do I give him the benefit of doubt and wait to see if his 'friend' contacts me. Or do I go down the line of issuing a non paying buyer, which I.understand from ebay means he cannot leave any feedback?
And ban him.from bidding on any items I sell in the future?
I was thinking of offering a second chance to the bidder that lost out but his last purchase is very similar to the winner bidder.
Await peoples comments regarding the above with interest.
went to my garage for and mot the other day. There was a car on the forecourt wit hits engine running and enough smoke to hide Bismarck. Apparently the guy had bought his replacement part using ebay and asked the garage to fit it. Not that your item was a dud- but there are two sides to a sale an honest seller and an honest buyer you need both to be successful
I'm not sure how someone can use a friends account by 'mistake', either you bid or you didn't. When putting in a bid you have to enter twice before it's put on, so I find it highly unlikely that it's a mistake. How long is it since the item was won and you contacted the buyers account. As a buyer I would ensure that I'd made contact with the seller to arrange collection and payment before going on a holiday. I would be asking more questions

The only way I could think it could happen is that they use a shared computer friend looks at my item but does not bid, buyer account then logs on, friend then goes to my item and places a bid but does realise he is not signed into his own account.
My item sold 3 days ago and I sent an email after 3 days asking buyer to make contact to arrange collection and payment and this is when he then states that his friend used his account and is now away on holiday for two weeks.
I might consider asking the buyer account of the actual day his friend returns and ask his friend to contact me asap and give a deadline, if deadline is not met then I would file a npb
If the guy is lying - then youv've done the right thing. If the guy is genuine - then he's pretty stoopid to bid on something and go on holiday and deserves to lose the auction.
serves them right for not keeping their account secure....
i woudl assume that buried in the rules there is something about this so ebay will support you on this.
leave relevant feedback and do 2nd chance to next bidder.
you have to be selfish sometimes, and its not your mistake, so take the best option for you
Wait 4 days and open a NPB dispute, they have four days to respond, if they dont close it and get your fee's back, Add them to your BBL and DON'T leave feedback, you can only leave positive and leaving a 'positive negative' will only get you into trouble so best not to leave any, why give thme another green dot? they in return cant leave any for you but if they do before the dispute is closed you can apply to have it removed. Eight days is plenty for anyone to sort things out,

i could have a guess, he has bought it under impression it would be delivered, once worked out its collection only he then bottles out.
You can report to ebay, and move to next buyer
Well if he did then he could not of read my advert fully which clearly states that the item was for collection only.
I think what can also happens they people ask to look for items within a certain radius but don't realise that by road its a lot further.

The guy is saying his friend has his own ebay account but did not realise when bidding he was signed into the guys account. So are two issues
The guy did not prevent use of his account by someone else.
Friend should of emailed advising he was going away on holiday and could not come and pay for item. All I got was an email from the guy before the end of the auction asking if he I had a buy I now price and could it be collected before the auction end date. TBH I don't reply to these emails as I always run auctions to the end.
Open a case for non-paying bidder, add to your blocked bidders list and re-list your item. You never know - as annoying as it is, it might work in your favour with your item achieving a higher price!
Regardless of 'mistakes' the account holder is responsibly for who uses his account and for any purchases made.
Don't let it put you off eBay-ing, the majority of buyers are great.

That might be your experience, but it's not mine. I've dabbled in selling and won't be doing it again. I sold quite a few items in a short space of time, some of reasonable value, and had issues with the majority of buyers. None-payment, kicking off about non-delivery before their payment had cleared, not turning up for collection, and saying items not as described etc etc
It's particularly hazardous for those not expert in its protocols, even if they have a head on their shoulders.

Very sound advice.

Every day is a gift..That's why it's called the present.
just to let you know what happened to me, i was at my partners place one night and signed into the computer / ebay to look at something coming to an end soon.
forgot for some reason to sign out. next morning my partner goes onto ebay and buys some fish food - not checking to see whose ebay account was on screen - uv guessed - mine lol
so i had to pay for it using my paypal account but have the fishfood ( came in a big drum ) delivered to my partners address - which was prolly looking all a bit dodgey to the seller so had to send an email explaining what had happened etc etc
we were both genuine ebayers and made a silly mistake.
