On Monday next week the woman I have loved for over 30 years is going into Yeovil District Hospital for abdominal surgery.
I think I will feel lost without her and to be honest I am worried sick about the entire thing.
I hope she will get the care she so richly deserves and am ready to fight her corner if not. I know the food it a bit rubbish at this hospital and have some plans in place to feed her once she is well enough.
Post op she will be off work until the new year and I know this will drive her round the twist. I will just have to get her into PS3 gaming.

Good luck Grant, you might find a Kindle and some dvds go down better. Got tons of books here if you want to borrow any.

Btw the car park there as I am sure you know is a menace. Goldcroft by Furnicare is £3 all day. If you come unstuck you can leave the car here and I can drop you down, just email if you want my up to date mobile number.
I loathe parking there, in fact I have opted to go to the Yeatman for an appointment in a fortnight!

Best of luck to her. I've to go through a big op within the next few months also, so understand your concerns too.

Im sure that she will come through it all just fine, not nice at the time I know, but modern surgery has just come on so much over the last few years with the invention of lazer instruments and more high tech micro surgery to join parts together again when they have done their work.
They do tend to get people up out of bed ASAP after the operation, this is to improve circulation and help prevent blood clots forming, whilst this may be uncomfortable at the time, its in the patients best interests to do so, but some people may see this as the staff being unkind, so please dont be too harsh on them if they do this with your wife, early mobilization is an important step towards recovery, and something to be encouraged regularly once she is back home.

Ive just had a hysterectomy 3 weeks ago, i was dreading it to be honest and scared stiff! just to reassure you, the NHS are brilliant and i was well looked after and put at ease. Immediately after the op, once on the ward, she will be regularly monitored and dosed up on painkillers, the day after they will probably get her up for a while, sitting in a chair, i panicked and thought no way am i ready, but i have to say, they really do know best and deal with it all the time, they will probably let her go at her own pace but also get her up for a while.
One thing i would say, as i work at the hospital i was an in-patient at, tell her not to be afraid to ask about anything at all she isnt sure about, ask what tablets she is having and what for, any injections, what are they for etc, etc, even if it seems the most silliest question, ask!!
I didnt feel like reading or in fact doing anything for the first few days and didnt get my appetite back until about 10 days later, its only now coming up to 3 weeks that i started to want to do things, but it's handy for her to have things there as everyone is different.
As much as you will worry, she really is in the best hands. good luck to both of you

One bit of advice i could give which I found out the hard way, dont believe everything you read in the leaflets they send you. The leaflet I got before going in for lithotripsy, told me the procedure is done in theatre, I might get a tube in my hand for pain relief to be adminisitered and I might be in hospital for 4 hours. There was no theatre trip-the room they do it in is across the corridor, there was no tube inserted-the pain relief was given by oral tablets beforehand, and I went home once Ide had a drink-which was about half an hour later. Oh yeah, I didnt really feel any pain either. I told the nurses they need to update their patient leaflet, they said we have-heres the new one. It still was'nt right, but I was'nt arguing-I had a car waiting for me, I was gone faster than a robbers dog.
Good luck to your good lady. The NHS is the best medical provider in the world, in my opinion anyway.
