As and when the clocks change take it as a reminder to changer the batteries in your smoke/carbon-monoxide alarms.

Yes, 9 volt batteries are expensive, but it just might save the life of your family and neighbours as well as your own.

A good reminder!

9v batteries are not as expensive as having a fire in the house - which I did years ago, and the batteries were flat in the smoke alarm.

Mine go off regularly - might have something to do with the state of my cooking!!

When it goes off I know that the food is ready LOL

On a serious note - I check ours on a monthly basis - I don't rely on waiting for the annoying beeping.

We had one down stairs when we moved in and couldn't believe it after checking the battery straight away and found he had disconnected it and the batterywas ok.

When we went to the Town hall for a reason the fire brigade were there promoting the smoke alarms for free. Came out with a complete crew to fit one on the top of the landing.They said the full crew came in case of an emergancy call.
