My house was build in 2006 and came with 2 smoke alarms. They are both powered by the mains and also a 9v battery for back up.
Every 15 minutes or so, both of the alarms give out a double beep (at different times). I have just replaced both of the batteries with Duracell ones, but the problem persists.
I have turned them off and back on at the house fuse box to reset them, and I have tested them both and they both work fine, other than this annoying double beep.
I have removed the battery and the alarm went dead due to having no power source. It would not plug back into the mains with no battery though, due to having a safety catch that is active when no battery is fitted.
Just to confirm that the problem I'm having isn't them alarms actually going off, they just make a two beeps then go back off. Very similar to when the batteries are low.
If the cleaning with the vacuum cleaner doesn't work then remove each battery and give a very light spray of WD40 onto both alarm battery connections as poor contacts can confuse the sensor very much the same as a low powered battery can. WD40 is quite safe to use on electrical contacts as it states this if you read the instructions on the side of the can.
Spooky - ours did exactly the same. New battery,, vacuum etc Turns out they have a unit expiry date, (NOT battery), and so have replaced with new units.

I could accept that, but they have expiry dates on them of 2016.
lad says this might be true(i didnt tell him that part)but the batteries that were in them might have been rechargeable ones or the unit might "Trickle charge"the ones that were in it.
Still says though get them checked or replaced..better safe than sorry.
