we missed our old haunts and friends and found it to be cold, windy with many areas run down.Hope it works better for you.
Try living in the Pennines and you'll know what cold and windy is!
We are hoping to relocate to Norfolk. We live near some of the most spectacular countryside on the planet, but its not always enough. The congestion really gets to me nowadays, often taking best part of an hour to get to a bloody motorway to see our kids.
Theres rubbish all over the town, outnumbered only by the chavs and scroungers. And they are building on more of the fields, making everywhere 'joined up', causing more congestion. The local councils are throwbacks from the Third Reich - imposing just as many rules about anything and everything.
I know Norfolk wont be without the above, but im hoping it will be thinner on the ground. At least i know the traffic is thinner - as no-one wants to live there!
Give me cabbages and corn any day - its better than chip papers and vomit.
DH got a new job in Wisbech a year ago and our house has been on the market since March, with a view to us moving closer as its currently an hour and a half commute each way for him.
We took the kids to Wisbech to have a look round, it's quite quaint but very run down. We took the kids to a play park and they asked if we had come to another country. We were the only one there that were speaking English. Still, the kids managed to make friends with a couple of Eastern European kids and were happy. The language of play must be universal!
We were thinking of moving somewhere around Downham Market/Denver area or Outwell. House prices seem to be cheaper in Lincs but it is very flat & boring. I keep looking at the North Norfolk coast area but that would mean a similar commute but in a different direction!
We just need to sell this place first and that's looking to be a lot harder than we first thought.
Nice house for sale in Suffolk, 12 miles from Bury St Edmunds
I don't really see there being lots of Eastern European people as a problem personally, without them we wouldn't have the agriculture and food production in that area.

Too right. They're more than happy to do all the jobs our unemployed 18 year olds won't touch.
By the way, I used to live in Baldock. Long time ago!
We lived in Bury St Edmunds for 14 years prior to moving to the West Midlands and it is a really lovely place to live. The schools are good, shopping is better than it used to be but you can go to Ipswich/Cambridge or Norwich for more variety. It is quite far though and your DH would still have a fairly long commute. We moved because of my DH job too....shame really but such is life!

Ooh thanks for that. Will do
I did wonder about flooding, we looked at one house in Nordelph and their parish website said it had never been flooded in living memory. But then you've got to wonder if that means anything. as I'm sure there's lots of places in Devon & Warwickshire that had never flooded until very recently either.
We lived for 3 years in Attleborough in Norfolk which is about 15 miles from Norwich and really liked it,nice little town with all the amenities you need
It's very well connected with the A11 very close so easy for friends and relatives to come up,also loads of stunning countryside to visit with Thetford forest 20 mins away and the whole Norfolk and Suffolk coast within an hour
Best bit is the house prices are great value

Very flat and very boring from what I have seen of it. Lots of agriculture, cabbages and caulis, but otherwise pretty bland.
Prices reflect this.
Ali
I think this is an unfair comment.
This is typical of what a lot of people say, it's like saying all there is in someset are apple trees.
Lincolnshire is very varied, yes in the south there are the fens which are flatter and has a lot of veg fields but Lincoln where I live is far from flat, try walking up steep hill to the beautiful cathedral area and you will find out.
Louth and surronding wolds area is beautiful and far from flat, they actually have a place called Hubbards 'Hills' not 'flats', , Woodhall spa is a lovely old small town.
Having lived in Boston I liked it then but wouldn't want to go back now as it doesn't have a very good reputation and is full of 'visitor' if you know my meaning.
I have also lived near Mablethorpe and although yes it's flat here theres not many places where you could have miles of beach to youself and also have a seal maternity unit on your doorstep at Donna Nook...... beautiful.
Been to Lincoln several times, it is lovely. My drives to it though have been through very flat and boring countryside, sorry! I can see more hills from my bedroom than the whole of Lincs has put together.
Oh and not many apple orchards left around here now, any that were have been washed away the last 5 days I reckon.

I agree many of them work and have houses and contribute, but we have areas in the city where they are camping in their tents, they kill the swans and take fish and wildlife as they have no idea of our laws especially with car MOT's etc.
Not getting too critical and trying to stay PC as I do not want to upset anyone. Just do a google

I'm not surprised actually. Where we take the kids to feed the ducks, the ducks used to be almost tame and would take food from your hand. Recently they're a lot more wary and there does seem to be less of them.
We lived in Tattershall for a short while, very nearly brought a house in Woodhall spa, my hubby was posted to raf Conningsby. But me and the kids found it too quiet and in the middle of no where! The highlight of our week was a trip to Asda at Boston (lots of eastern europeans there) Anyway in the end we decided to come back home, leaving hubby to travel back weekends
There are some lovely places over there and houses are really cheap compared to where we live, but I'd definately do your research.
